Braves’ right-hander Robert Suarez will be a late arrival to spring training due to visa issues.
That explains why the 34-year-old hurler wasn’t seen around camp when pitchers and catchers reported. No word yet on how long Suarez will need to resolve the visa issue, but it won’t impact his availability for the start of the regular season. He’s expected to function in a setup capacity in front of incumbent closer Raisel Iglesias.

The Angels are promoting Denzer Guzmán, according to Baseball America’s Taylor Blake Ward.
This might mean that Vaughn Grissom is IL bound, which would be unfortunate. The 22-year-old Guzmán has hit .336/.403/.571 for Triple-A Salt Lake. If he thrives, he could get a chance to stick at second or third, and while it probably won’t happen this year, the Angels could consider moving Zach Neto off shortstop to make room for Guzman in the future.
HLs: Giants outlast Cubs in extras to take series
After a six-inning stalemate that saw the score stay at 1-1, the Giants took care of business on Sunday Night Baseball against the Cubs, where strong pitching and Matt Chapman's extra-innings single were the difference.
  • STL Center Fielder #11
The Cardinals are demoting Victor Scott II to Triple-A, according to KMOV’s Tamar Sher.
Nathan Church will presumably come off the IL to replace Scott and play center field most of the time. Scott is hitting just .194/.276/.258 with nine RBI in 184 plate appearances this season, and while his defense has been above average, it hasn’t been quite as good as last year. He needs to make some real progress offensively before getting another chance. His 24 percent strikeout rate wouldn’t be so bad if he had real power, but since he doesn’t, he needs to make quite a bit more contact.
  • SD Catcher #12
Luis Campusano is back catching and hitting and could soon begin a rehab assignment.
Campusano suffered a fractured big toe while fouling a pitch off himself on May 5. He’ll replace Rodolfo Durán as Freddy Fermin’s backup once healthy.
  • SD 2nd Baseman #9
Jake Cronenworth has resumed light baseball activity as he continues his recovery from a concussion.
Cronenworth has been sidelined since May 5 and is definitely still weeks away. He might return as a utilityman if the Padres want to keep playing Fernando Tatis Jr. at second base.
  • SD Designated Hitter #41
Miguel Andujar is day-to-day with hamstring tightness after being removed for a pinch-runner Sunday.
If Andujar can’t go on Monday, maybe the Padres will stick the streaking Freddy Fermin in the DH spot.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #50
Jameson Taillon was diagnosed with a strained left hamstring after leaving Sunday night’s game against the Giants in the second inning.
Taillon seems likely to land on the injured list. The Cubs are about to get Matthew Boyd back from his knee issue, so that’s something. Colin Rea would no longer be in danger of being replaced in the rotation with Taillon out.
  • LAA Catcher #38
Sebastián Rivero finished 5-for-5 and drove in six runs to lead the Angels to a 13-5 victory over the Dodgers on Sunday.
Amazing. Rivero’s first four hits were singles that left the bat at 72, 56, 73 and 84 mph, but they were all perfectly placed. The three harder ones were liners sure to drop in front of outfielders. The 56-mph shot to second would have been an out most of the time, but not against the drawn-in infield the Dodgers were employing with runners on second and third. Finally, in his last at-bat, Rivero crushed a 103-mph liner to the gap for an RBI double. The 27-year-old Rivero, who debuted with the Royals in 2021, came into the day with a .160 average and eight RBI in 156 career plate appearances. He had six hits and two RBI in 49 plate appearances for the Angels this season. In spite of his success, he’ll probably be back on the bench in favor of Logan O’Hoppe on Monday.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #59
José Soriano yielded five runs — four earned — in six innings Sunday in a win over the Dodgers.
Wild of late, Soriano seemed focused on throwing strikes, at the expense of some velocity, early in this one. It worked out nicely, too. He allowed just one run and one walk through five. In the sixth, however, he walked Kyle Tucker to start things, got victimized by a Zach Neto error and then gave up back-to-back homers to score four runs. Fortunately, Soriano had the margin for error and still improved to 7-4 with a 2.96 ERA in what ended up being a 13-5 game. He’ll pitch at home against the Rays next weekend.
  • LAD Catcher #68
Dalton Rushing finished 4-for-4 with a three-run homer and a double versus the Angels on Sunday.
Early April’s biggest surprise, Rushing had been very quiet these last seven weeks. With the bat, anyway. However, he was able to get a second straight start today with Will Smith ailing and took advantage of it with his first homer since Apr. 20. He had been 9-for-51 with one RBI since the beginning of May.
  • LAA Right Fielder #7
Jo Adell went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and four runs scored versus the Dodgers on Sunday.
Adell had four hits for the first time since Aug. 26, 2022 and the second time of his career. He hadn’t even had two hits since May 20, as he came into the game in an 8-for-54 slump. Ideally, Adell will find his way into the cleanup spot in Anaheim with Jorge Soler out for at least a few weeks, but he hasn’t made a great case yet with his .243/.283/.392 line.
