Bailey Falter (elbow) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday

Falter was only able to pitch in two games to begin the season before being placed on the injured list with elbow irritation. The southpaw will likely need a couple of appearances before being ready to potentially help the Kansas City staff near the end of April.

Trent Grisham is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Rays

With the Rays throwing left-hander Shane McClanahan, the Yankees will play Max Schuemann in center field and have Grisham on the bench. In five games since coming off the injured list, Grisham has gone 4-for-18 with two doubles, a home run, five runs scored, two RBI, and a steal. He also has a 58 percent hard-hit rate in that incredibly small sample size, so he should heat up again with more at-bats under his belt.

Anthony Volpe is starting at shortstop and batting sixth against the Rays on Wednesday

Volpe had sat the last two games with Jose Caballero playing shortstop, but Caballero will move to second base on Wednesday and Jazz Chisholm Jr. will get a day off. Earlier this season, Volpe became the first player in MLB history with over 1,800 plate appearances and an on-base percentage under .285. His defense at shortstop has improved this year, but he’s not giving the Yankees much else.

The Mets were counting on Myers to provide length out of their bullpen this season, but he has pitched to a 6.21 ERA in 42 innings. His results were much better in nine innings at Triple-A, so the team will hope he can carry that over into his MLB innings.

Mets designated RHP Matt Seelinger for assignment.

It’s a tough 24 hours for Seelinger. The 31-year-old Long Island native made his MLB debut with the Mets on Tuesday but was thrust into a 9-9 game because the rest of the team couldn’t stop the Royals from scoring. Seelinger then allowed seven runs on five hits in two innings and has now been let go.
