Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Kodai Senga will remain in the rotation for now.

Mendoza added that they haven’t assessed whether Senga will make his next start, but he’s still getting the dreaded vote of confidence after being lit up for seven runs over 3 1/3 innings during Friday’s meltdown against the Cubs. The 33-year-old was tagged for six hits, including a pair of homers, in the abbreviated outing. It’s easy to write off one wind-fueled poor outing as an aberration, but Senga has coughed up seven runs in back-to-back outings. It would most likely be veteran lefty Sean Manaea, or someone like top pitching prospect Jonah Tong, moving into the rotation if New York decides to make a change. His stuff would certainly play up in shorter bursts out of the bullpen. It’s been a disastrous season for the Mets overall, but they’re sticking with Senga for now.

Gabriel Arias remains on the bench on Wednesday against the White Sox.

Arias has now sat in two straight games after starting four of the previous five. The 26-year-old has gone just 4-for-22 since being activated off the 60-day IL with a 13/0 K/BB rate in five games. Daniel Schneemann will start at third base and bat seventh.

Corey Seager (concussion) remains out of the lineup on Wednesday against the Marlins.

Seager took batting practice on Tuesday but was unable to clear concussion protocols in time for the day game on Wednesday. There remains a strong chance that he will play on Thursday in the first game against the Blue Jays. Ezequiel Duran will start at shortstop on Wednesday with Nicky Lopez at second base.

Esteury Ruiz remains on the bench on Wednesday against the Rangers.

Ruiz has now been on the bench for two straight games as Heriberto Hernandez, Owen Caissie, and Jakob Marsee start in the outfield. This was always part of the risk when Griffin Conine came back from the injured list and filled the designated hitter spot. It seems like Ruiz will be limited to mostly starting against left-handed pitchers and pinch running for the time being.

AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) will begin his rehab assignment on Thursday with two innings of a simulated game.

Smith-Shawver is expected to throw between 35 and 40 pitches. The right-hander has been sidelined all season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in early June of last year. The general recovery process is about 12 to 14 months, so Smith-Shawver is right on track. We’d assume he gets sent to an affiliate at the beginning of July to continue his rehab, and he could be an option for Atlanta in August.

Rangers optioned RHP Jose Corniell to Triple-A Round Rock

Corniell followed Cal Quantrill on Tuesday and allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings while being saddled with the loss against the Marlins. He could get another chance later this summer, but he would not be on the fantasy radar.

Rangers recalled RHP Winston Santos from Double-A Frisco

Santos is the Rangers’ fifth-ranked prospect, but the 24-year0old has struggled at Double-A this season, posting a 7.44 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 42 1/3 innings. That comes with 58 strikeouts but also 21 walks. It remains to be seen what role Texas has in mind for him, but he has not made one appearance out of the bullpen since 2023.

Marlins optioned LHP Dax Fulton to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Fulton has allowed two runs on three hits in his seven innings with the Marlins. He should get another chance at some point over the summer.

Marlins activated RHP Eury Pérez (leg) from the 15-day injured list.

This was reported yesterday and is now official. Pérez looked good in his lone rehab start, but wed rather take a wait and see approach then throw him right back into our lineups against the Rangers on Wednesday.

Mets RHP prospect Jack Wenninger allowed four runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Wenninger also walked three and struck out four while throwing 46 of his 78 pitches for strikes. The Mets are desperate for help in their big league rotation, but both Wenninger and Jonah Tong have been struggling at Triple-A, which makes it hard for the front office to make a change.

Ronny Mauricio (thumb) went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and three RBI for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Mauricio fractured his left thumb on May 3rd and was expected to miss six to eight weeks, so he’s right on track in his recovery. With how much the Mets’ bats have slumped, it wouldn’t be out of the question for him to come back and push Brett Baty, Eric Wagaman, or Jared Young back to the minors. Mark Vientos has no minor league options left, which is why he will likely remain.
