Pirates optioned RHP Cam Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Sanders had just been recalled from Triple-A on Friday but he’ll head right back there after giving up four runs on three hits and a walk in just 2/3 of an inning in his lone appearance (54.00 ERA). Sanders has terrific stuff and not much left to prove in the minor leagues, so he should get another opportunity to work out of the Pirates’ bullpen before long.

Max Meyer allowed three hits over six innings in the Marlins’ 12-0 shutout of the Braves on Monday.
John King, Calvin Faucher and Lake Bachar finished up. Meyer struck out six, generating 13 whiffs. All three hits against him were singles. Meyer is now 4-0 with a 2.85 ERA. His peripherals aren’t quite as good as his ERA, but they are much improved. The big thing is that he’s given up homers on just 7.4 percent of his flyballs allowed. He was at 20.9 percent in his career coming into the season, compared to a league average of 11-12 percent. He’s slated to make his next start Saturday against the Mets.
Temper power expectations for Guerrero Jr.
After finally hitting his first home run of May, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s power outage to start the season could actually be a sign of things to come for the remainder of year, where he could finish with 20-25 home runs.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher
JR Ritchie was tagged for six runs in four innings by the Marlins to take his first loss Monday.
Five of the runs came in the fourth, which included four hits, a walk and a HBP. The big hit was a 98-mph smash from Joe Mack that Ozzie Albies couldn’t handle at second base. If Albies had picked it, it likely would have been an inning-ending double play without a run scoring. He didn’t, and Ritchie just couldn’t recover. Ritchie is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA and a 21/16 K/BB in 25 2/3 innings through five starts. He needs to have a better afternoon Sunday against the Nationals.
  • MIA 3rd Baseman #8
Javier Sanoja hit a grand slam for his first homer of the year Monday against the Braves.
Sanoja had six homers in 342 plate appearances as a rookie last season, but he was without one in 102 plate appearances this year until taking Aaron Bummer deep in the fifth. Sanoja has started 25 of the Marlins’ 48 games this season and is batting .260/.317/.354 as a utilityman, though he’s mostly playing third base of late.
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #9
Xavier Edwards went 2-for-4 and hit his fifth homer Monday against the Braves.
Edwards has five homers in 203 plate appearances this season after entering the year with four in 1,006 career plate appearances. It doesn’t seem like a fluke, either, as he has 10 barrels and a solid 37 percent hard-hit rate. It’s just too bad he’s cut back on the steal attempts. He’s currently 6-for-8 there. In 2024, he was 31-for-35 in 70 games, and he was 27-for-34 in 139 games last season.
  • MIA Catcher #80
Joe Mack drove in four runs with a single, a groundout and a bases-loaded walk Monday against the Braves.
Mack tripled his career RBI total in the rout tonight. He’s hitting .225/.262/.300 with 15 strikeouts through 42 plate appearances. He’ll start contributing with the occasional homer soon, but the average and OBP probably aren’t going to improve by a whole lot.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #27
Jake Irvin allowed three runs (one earned) in four innings and got a no-decision against the Mets on Monday.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #45
Christian Scott allowed three runs in four innings and got a no-decision in the Mets’ 16-7 victory over the Nationals on Monday.
Scott gave up four hits, walked three and struck out five. The 26-year-old right-hander didn’t complete five innings let alone factor into the decision as the game was decided in extra innings. After five starts, Scott has a 4.12 ERA and 4.28 xFIP. His 25 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings point to his upside, though. Scott will face the Marlins on the road this weekend.
  • CHC Shortstop #7
Dansby Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Brewers on Monday.
Swanson’s home run was his seventh of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Brandon Sproat in the fifth inning. After allowing another run, Sproat was chased from the ballgame before completing five innings. Swanson is still hitting .194 on the season despite his power.
  • MIL 1st Baseman #9
Jake Bauers went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI against the Cubs on Monday.
Bauers’ home run was his seventh of the season. He hit a three-run shot off Shota Imanaga in the fifth inning. While Bauers has hit well to this point in the season, with Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich back from injury, he could be squeezed for playing time.
  • COL 2nd Baseman #3
Willi Castro doubled twice to help the Rockies to a 7-6 win over the Rangers on Sunday.
Castro’s sixth-inning double scored Braxton Fulford and gave the Rockies a 7-3 cushion. The 29-year-old veteran has eight doubles on the season, and he’s now slugging a less-than-spectacular .351 on the season; even more unspectacular when you consider his home park. Castro likely will be a trade candidate this summer, and his utility abilities help clubs a lot more than fantasy players.
