Colson Montgomery failed to reach base in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to the Nationals, finishing 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
Montgomery hit fifth, and he’s now started eight of 10 games against lefties this year. He usually hits cleanup when the White Sox face a righty. The young shortstop recently homered in four straight contests, continuing his slugging ways despite a high strikeout rate.

Red Sox transferred LHP Patrick Sandoval to the 60-day injured list.
It’s merely a procedural move as Sandoval won’t make it back to Boston’s rotation mix until at least late May. The 29-year-old has made two rehab starts for Triple-A Worcester this season as he continues working his way back from Tommy John surgery.
Marlins call up top prospect Mack
Eric Samulski unpacks the news of the Marlins calling up their top hitting prospect in catcher Joe Mack and explains why he's more of a two-catcher league target early on.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #53
Carlos Estévez (foot) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Omaha.
The proverbial million dollar question is whether Estévez has a shot at reclaiming Kansas City’s closer role from Lucas Erceg, who has converted nine of 11 save opportunities this season. The 33-year-old hit the shelf with a foot contusion, after several weeks of diminished fastball velocity, back in early April. It’ll be fascinating to see if his fastball is back to last year’s levels during his rehab assignment.
  • HOU Center Fielder #16
Astros recalled OF Zach Cole from Triple-A Sugar Land.
Cole returns to Houston’s outfield mix after opening the season in the minors where he suffered a broken toe during a Triple-A contest back in late March. The 25-year-old, who got into 15 games as a rookie last season, will function in a reserve role and likely split time with Dustin Harris in left field.
  • HOU Left Fielder #10
Astros activated OF Joey Loperfido from the 10-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Loperfido will remain in the minors after wrapping up a rehab assignment. The 26-year-old has been out recovering from a quad strain since mid-April. Houston will roll with Zach Cole, Brice Matthews, Dustin Harris and Shay Whitcomb in a semi-rotation between a pair of outfield spots next to Cam Smith.
  • HOU Center Fielder #31
Astros designated OF Daniel Johnson for assignment.
Johnson’s stint with the Astros wound up lasting nearly two weeks as he went 2-for-14 at the plate in eight contests. The 30-year-old journeyman was summoned to the big leagues after injuries wiped out nearly all of Houston’s outfield depth.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #46
Quinn Priester (shoulder) has been pulled off a minor league rehab assignment.
It’s a bit unclear whether Priester suffered a physical setback or the Brewers merely want him to hit the reset button after three abysmal rehab outings over the past two weeks. The 25-year-old has been on the shelf working his way back from thoracic outlet syndrome since spring training. There should be an update from Milwaukee at some point this week. However, fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back anytime soon.
  • MIL Center Fielder #11
Brewers activated OF Jackson Chourio from the 10-day injured list.
Chourio will make his long-awaited season debut on Monday evening against the Cardinals after missing nearly six weeks to open the year recovering from a fractured hand. The 22-year-old fantasy superstar is ready to roll following an injury scare when he fouled a ball off his foot during his final minor league rehab contest over the weekend. He’ll provide a much-needed lift for Milwaukee, and fantasy managers as well, after recording back-to-back 20-homer, 20-steal campaigns to kick off his career.
  • MIL 1st Baseman #28
Brewers activated 1B Andrew Vaughn from the 10-day injured list.
Vaughn’s return figures to cut into playing time for both Jake Bauers and Gary Sánchez as he makes it back following a five-week absence recovering from surgery to repair a hamate fracture in his left wrist. He’s shown enough over-the-fence power to warrant a roster spot in deeper mixed leagues since arriving in Milwaukee last year as a reclamation project.
  • MIL Left Fielder #16
Brewers optioned OF Blake Perkins to Triple-A Nashville.
Perkins gets caught up in a roster crunch with both Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn returning from the injured list. The 29-year-old reserve outfielder winds up losing his roster spot with Brandon Lockridge occupying a bench spot behind Chourio, Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick.
  • MIL Right Fielder #30
Brewers designated OF Greg Jones for assignment.
Jones has been removed from Milwaukee’s roster to make room for superstar Jackson Chourio to return from the injured list. The 28-year-old went 2-for-21 in 11 games with the Brewers since April 14.
