POINT GUARD
Brandon Goodwin – Cleveland (vs. Washington) - DK: $4,200 / FD: $5,400 / Yahoo: $11
I know that Garland and LeVert won’t be out forever, but the sites’ not changing Goodwin’s salary at all seems strange. Not that we’re complaining. Goodwin was superb for his meager salary Thursday night, a game in which Rajon Rondo also contributed. Now Rondo is also set to miss time, which makes Goodwin nearly a must-play tonight. This game does have the lowest point total of the slate, but Goodwin should play 30-plus minutes tonight and Washington might be wiped from their double-overtime loss last night.
Also Consider: Ja Morant, De’Aaron Fox, Jrue Holiday, Raul Neto, Fred VanVleet, Dejounte Murray
SHOOTING GUARD
Will Barton – Denver (vs. Sacramento) - DK: $6,400 / FD: $5,800 / Yahoo: $21
Advocating for Barton feels a little bit like chasing points, but he does get the same advantageous matchup that he had on Thursday night, with the Kings allowing the third-most overall fantasy points and second-most to opposing shooting guards. Barton has had his ups and downs this season but has strung together some quality runs as well. Refreshed from the break, he busted out a season-high 31 points with a full stat line Thursday. Maybe we don’t see 40 fantasy points tonight, but Barton should be solid for his reasonable salary (especially FanDuel and Yahoo).
Also Consider: Gary Trent Jr., Tyler Herro, Devin Vassell, Seth Curry, Zach LaVine
SMALL FORWARD
Deni Avdija – Washington (at Cleveland) - DK: $5,000 / FD: $6,200 / Yahoo: $15
Avdija is quietly making very productive contributions to his newly re-tooled team. In the four games since Valentine’s Day, Avdija is averaging 32 fantasy points per game in about 32 MPG. He was one Wizard who didn’t over-do it last night, playing 36 minutes in the high-scoring loss. His contributions in every category just about every night give him a high floor, and his salary is welcome relief everywhere.
Also Consider: Jimmy Butler, Khris Middleton, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Lauri Markkanen, Zaire Williams, Harrison Barnes
POWER FORWARD
DeMar DeRozan – Chicago (vs. Memphis) - DK: $10,500 / FD: $10,200 / Yahoo: $46
DeRozan is getting the press and credit he deserves for the season he is having, and his salary is getting up there. He’s still a bargain relative to Giannis, and the extra salary is coming in handy for me tonight. Both this game and the Bucks-Nets game carry sky-high point totals of 236.5 points, but Chicago is a very narrow home favorite, while the Bucks could blow the Nets out, limiting Antetokounmpo’s usefulness on this slate. DeRozan is on fire right now, so while he didn’t have a great showing vs. the Grizzlies back in January, I think he’s on another level at this point in the season and I’ll roster him with confidence.
Also Consider: Kyle Kuzma, Domantas Sabonis, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaren Jackson, Scottie Barnes, Keldon Johnson
CENTER
Bam Adebayo – Miami (vs. San Antonio) - DK: $8,400 / FD: $9,500 / Yahoo: $35
One of the reasons to save a bit at PF is to fit a star center. Among several choices, Jokic is the clear favorite, but assuming salary is too tight to make that work well, I’m turning to Adebayo. The Spurs are a top fantasy matchup for centers, offering a significant pace bump while allowing the fourth-most overall fantasy points to opponents. Adebayo is a double-double machine, and with as good a season as he is having, bested his season-average by five fantasy points the first time he played San Antonio.
Also Consider: Nikola Jokic, Nikola Vucevic, Jarrett Allen, Clint Capela, Bobby Portis
Additional Notes
Bogdan Bogdanovic (G/F – ATL) is still a relatively cheap and versatile option to round out lineups tonight. I normally don’t love players facing the Raptors, but Bogdanovic has been matchup-proof lately, and has performed really well against Toronto this season (averaging 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals per game).
Zaire Williams (SF – MEM) is shooting well over 50 percent from the field in February, and Thursday we finally saw him play 27 minutes and increase his shot volume accordingly. He put up 21 efficient points vs. Minnesota, and tonight should be another high-scoring opportunity for him. Chicago ranks fifth in fantasy points to opposing forwards, and all signs point to the minimum-salaried Williams getting another decent opportunity tonight.
Bounce-back options: There are several players who came out of the break and put up big fat duds, or at least sub-par stat lines for their salary, even in great matchups. I think you can find some lower-rostered value in guys like Fred VanVleet, De’Aaron Fox, Trae Young, and Pascal Siakam tonight if you’re willing to take the chance on them in your GPP lineups.
