De’Von Achane rushed seven times for 39 yards and one touchdown in Friday’s preseason game against the Commanders.

Spring and summer reports indicated that the Dolphins’ new coaching staff wanted to operate a run-heavy offense. Those reports weren’t lying. Achane took run after run up the middle until he punched one in from one yard out. Questions remain as to how efficient this offense might be, but Achane is seemingly set to handle a large workload again this season. Backup RB Jaylen Wright was the RB2 tonight, taking his first carry for 13 yards up the middle.
Which new head coach will have most success?
With 10 NFL coaching hires in the offseason, Football Night in America debates who will have the most success in 2026, highlighting Jesse Minter, Joe Brady, and John Harbaugh.

Asked if the big-bodied Gordon would function as a short-yardage banger in 2026, Hafley said he would rather see Gordon “compete” to be an “every-down back.” “I think he’s capable of doing it,” Hafley added. “Ollie has flashed and knows what he’s doing. He has great speed, he has great size, and he can catch the ball out of the backfield too.” Hafley also complimented Gordon’s pass blocking. Gordon is coming off a disastrous rookie campaign in which he totaled 199 yards and three touchdowns on 70 carries, good for 2.8 yards per rush. Gordon ranked 56th out of 65 qualifying backs in rushing success rate last year. He ranked 58th in missed tackles forced per rush. Gordon, an extremely productive college rusher, will compete with Jaylen Wright for RB2 duties behind De’Von Achane this month.

It’s not a shocking relelvation by any means. It does, however, confirm that the new-look Miami offense will likely lean heavily toward the run in 2026 with Malik Willis under center. That should include plenty of designed rushes for the dual-threat Willis, along with a heavy dose of touches for Achane. The Dolphins this offseason signed Achane to a four-year extension worth $68 million with clear intentions to use the speedy back as the focal point of the Miami offense. Achane during a Wednesday presser said his goal is to lead the NFL in rushing yards this season. His 1,350 rushing yards in 2025 ranked fifth, while his 5.7 yards per carry ranked first.

Achane’s recovery from a clean-up procedure on his shoulder has progressed well, paving the way for him to be active for the first day of camp on Wednesday while avoiding PUP. Fresh off a four-year extension, Achane enters the 2026 season as a volume-based RB1 in fantasy circles, although there are legitimate concerns considering the plentiful changes up and down Miami’s roster. The Dolphins currently project to be a bottom five offense in the new season, something that could significantly limit Achane’s weekly upside.
  • MIA Running Back #5
The Dolphins are expected to employ a very run-heavy approach this season, so the Dolphins’ RB2 might get a handful of touches each week. Wright will have a tough time returning FLEX value on that workload but like Slowik says, “my man has some speed.” Perhaps Wright will be worth stashing on benches this year. We’ll see how training camp pans out.

Achane underwent a clean-up procedure on his shoulder during the offseason. He has been practicing in a limited capacity recently but hasn’t been fully cleared yet. Achane told reporters he has regained his strength in his shoulder, meaning the team is likely just being cautious with his return to action. Given that they signed him to a four-year, $68 million contract extension this offseason, it’s hard to imagine the shoulder being even a minor issue by the time camp starts in two months. Barring a surprise, Achane should enter the regular season as a locked-in fantasy RB1.

At this point, all we know is that Achane missed at least one OTA session a few days ago. His expected return timeline is unknown, but the front office has only signed free agent RB Carlos Washington Jr. in Achane’s absence. The team does not seem to be panicking. It’s entirely possible that the team is sidelining Achane out of an abundance of caution. The Dolphins’ first two OTAs occurred on May 18th and 19th. They hosted another today, which could provide more insight, and will go on break until the 26th. We should have an update by then.

After signing a four-year contract extension worth $68 million last week, Achane is practicing alongside his teammates under new Miami head coach Jeff Hafley. Hafley said “the feeling around the team was excitement, happiness for De’Von Achane after settling the business side of things this offseason with his contract extension,” according to the Sun Sentinel’s David Furones. One of the league’s most efficient running backs, Achane is set to be the centerpiece of the Dolphins offense in 2026.

The Dolphins secure their franchise running back, making Achane the NFL’s third-highest paid running back. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz adds that the contract includes $32 million guaranteed; it’s the most guarantees and average salary per year ($17 million) for a running back coming off a rookie contract. The 24-year-old was set to enter the final year of his rookie deal coming off his first career 1,000-yard rushing season. Totaling 1,838 all-purpose yards and making a Pro Bowl last season, Achane cemented himself as a cornerstone piece for a Dolphins offense entering a rebuilding phase. Speed and pass-catching are two of his most valuable traits, making him a high-end RB1 for fantasy purposes. With a deal making him one of the highest-paid running backs in football, Achane figures to see another 200-carry, 80-target season in 2026.

Achane and the Dolphins’ front office are attempting to work out a long-term contract extension. The team hosted the first day of its voluntary offseason workout program last week. Achane did not attend. Per Schefter, today’s return to the team training facility is believed to be a “sign of good faith” from the 24-year-old running back. A prior ESPN report indicates Achane is hoping to beat the four-year, $48 million contract extension signed by Bills RB James Cook last offseason. Overall, Achane’s appearance seems like a step in the right direction for all involved.
  • MIA Running Back #28
Sullivan and the entire Dolphins organization have made it clear this offseason that Achane is not on the trade block, even as the team actively tears things down at other positions. Achane did not report to voluntary OTAs while working toward a new contract, but all signs point toward this standoff ending in a timely fashion. Sans Jaylen Waddle, Achane is now the centerpiece of the Dolphins’ offense. Even if the team struggles in 2026, his pass-catching role alone should keep him afloat as an RB1.

Bears elevated WR Kaden Davis for Week 1 against the Panthers.

This wouldn’t be news under normal circumstances but takes on additional meaning with Rome Odunze listed questionable for Week 1. It is of particular note that the Bears already have five wide receivers on the active roster and still chose to elevate another. While recent reports seemed to indicate a sense of optimism regarding Odunze’s potential availability, he could be on the wrong side of questionable given the recent transaction. Fantasy managers will want to confirm his status when the team released its inactives 90-minutes prior to first kick. Luther Burden and Colston Loveland would be in line to benefit greatly should Odunze be unable to go.

Both players could see situational roles in the team’s opening game. They should not be counted on in IDP leagues.

Raiders signed TE Michael Mayer to a three-year, $45 million contract extension.

The deal was first reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. Mayer’s deal includes $30 million guaranteed and his $15 million average annual value is third among tight ends. The Raiders selected Mayer in the second-round (35th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. He had 300 yards as a rookie and the Raiders drafted Brock Bowers 13th overall the following year. Mayer is firmly on the fantasy radar for Week 1 against the Dolphins with Bowers (knee) sidelined, but his value is unstable as the Raiders’ second tight end.

Packers signed TE Tucker Kraft to a four-year, $75 million contract extension.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Kraft’s deal, which runs through the 2030 season, has a maximum value of $92 million and includes a $26.5 million signing bonus. He’s now the NFL’s highest-paid tight end. Kraft had 32 receptions, 489 yards and six touchdowns before tearing his ACL in Week 9 last year. Not on the injury report for Week 1, Kraft is a surefire TE1 even in a tough matchup against the Vikings defense.

Lions restructured the contracts of WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and LT Penei Sewell.

According to Over the Cap, the Lions created $35.68 million in cap space. Detroit is now second in the NFL in cap space with around $38 million, which can either be used this year or carry over to 2027. While a big in-season move could come closer to the trade deadline, Lions GM Brad Holmes recently reiterated the organization’s interest in giving contract extensions, which would begin in 2027, to TE Sam LaPorta and S Brian Branch.

ESPN’s Todd Archer reports that Cowboys Malik Davis (hip) will have surgery and be placed on injured reserve.

It is unclear whether this is a season-ending injury or if Davis has a chance to return later in the year. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported earlier that the Cowboys were “bracing for an extended absence” and that a source told him, “it’s bad.” It sounds like Davis’ 2026 season may be over. Cowboys RB Emari Demercado now sits behind starting RB Javonte Williams, and RB Israel Abanikanda is on the practice squad.

NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reports that the Panthers will “likely” decide whether to offer QB Bryce Young an extension in the 2027 offseason.

Young has two years remaining on his contract, but is currently eligible for an extension. According to Wolfe, Young needs to improve in three areas. First, Young must check down when it’s the responsible thing to do, in turn elevating his completion rate to the “high 60s, low 70s” range. Second, Young must be comfortable playing with tempo and diverse personnel formations, including WR Tetairoa McMillan lining up in the slot more often. Third, Young must play quickly and decisively. Whether he can accomplish these feats is up in the air. He’s a mid-to-low QB2 for fantasy purposes.

The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reports that the Giants’ plan to elevate WR Braxton Berrios from the practice squad is unrelated to WR Malik Nabers (knee).

This one is for the practice squad transactions grinders. Nabers is questionable to play in Week 1 against the Cowboys and has made it clear that he is weighing his long-term health heavily as he decides whether to play. Per Duggan, if the Giants elevate a second wide receiver, that “would be a very discouraging sign.” Stay tuned.

Vikings restructured CB Isaiah Rodgers’ contract.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the restructure converts playtime incentives, up to $1.5 million, into a signing bonus “as a nod to his status as a proven starter.” Prior to the new deal, the Vikings also had only $6.39 million in salary cap space, the eighth-lowest amount in the NFL.

New Orleans Football’s Nick Underhill believes Saints RB Alvin Kamara (knee) will not have a “huge role” if he plays in Week 1 against the Lions.

Underhill notes that Kamara practiced fully on Friday, “so he’s cleared, but the team is deep at running back.” This is good news for starting RB Travis Etienne, who should lead the team in carries easily and potentially hog snaps in scoring position since Kamara will be less than 100 percent healthy, if active. Saints RB3 Kendre Miller is the next man up.
