Bears RB Kyle Monangai (knee) did not practice on Thursday.

Monangai dealt with a knee injury in August that sidelined him for multiple weeks. He logged 12 touches in Week 1, then managed a hamstring injury last week before handling another 12 touches in Week 2. The robust running back will likely be good to go for the Bears’ Week 3 Monday Night Football game against the Eagles, but Monangai’s practice status is worth tracking.

Monangai will miss his third game in a row this week. Exactly two weeks ago, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Monangai’s turf toe injury would be an issue for 1-2 weeks. Technically, his statement remains accurate. This week’s Thursday Night Football game complicates things. If the Bears thought Monangai would miss four games, they likely would have put him on injured reserve, so he should, theoretically, be able to play in Week 8 against the Seahawks. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, and for those wondering, the Bears go on bye in Week 10. D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson have been splitting touches with Monangai sidelined. We do not yet know if Johnson will be punished for last week’s fumble though.
  • CHI Running Back #25
He hasn’t practiced yet this week and appears very unlikely to go on Thursday night. It would seem to be trending towards another week with Roschon Johnson as the backup runner for the Bears.
  • CHI Running Back #4
Swift again dominated backfield touches for Chicago with Kyle Monangai sidelined with injuries to his toe and hand. Roschon Johnson had 13 carries, with most of those coming after the Bears had raced out to a big lead (before that lead dwindled in the fourth quarter). Both of Swift’s touchdowns came inside the ten yard line. Swift should be locked in for at least 15 touches in Week 7 against the Patriots if Monangai remains sidelined. His involvement in the pass game provides a nice weekly PPR floor.

Bears coach Ben Johnson said Monangai is “trending in the right direction,” but remains week-to-week. D’Andre Swift should handle a sizable workload with Monangai sidelined. Roschon Johnson may be able to catch a few passes, but he makes for a shaky FLEX bet. Monangai should be stashed safely on fantasy football benches.

Exactly one week ago, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Monangai’s turf toe injury jeopardized his availability over the next 1-2 weeks. Unfortunately, he is on the wrong side of questionable at this time. Roschon Johnson could contribute on passing downs if Monangai cannot play, but D’Andre Swift will handle the majority of the backfield touches this week.
  • CHI Running Back #25
Monangai missed Week 5 due to thumb and toe injuries; he did not practice all of last week and was estimated as a non-participant for the Bears’ Wednesday walk-through. A DNP listing after already missing a week is not a good sign for the 24-year-old’s availability. Starter D’Andre Swift (hip) was notably not on the injury report. Monangai will need to practice to have a chance to play but fantasy managers will need to start looking at backup Roschon Johnson as a potential fill-in for Week 6 against the Falcons.
  • CHI Running Back #4
Swift was the only Bear to find the end zone in a throwaway performance where Tyson Bagent was benched for the fourth quarter. It was still a disappointing statline with Kyle Monangai (toe) on the shelf, but there just wasn’t much Swift could do with Bagent failing to threaten the Packers’ defense and the Bears’ D struggling mightily. Swift also lost a ton of passing-game work and targets to fill-in No. 2 RB Roschon Johnson. That’s a potentially disturbing development heading into Week 6 against the Falcons, with or without Monangai in the lineup. Thankfully, Caleb Williams (hamstring) should be back, shoring up Swift’s value in the RB10-14 range.
  • CHI Running Back #4
Despite an early-week DNP, Swift heads into the week in arguably a better position than he started it. We’re not sure how much workload he’ll handle with Kyle Monangai (foot) out, but it will certainly be a large majority of what the Bears do. Roschon Johnson figures to handle whatever Swift can’t, but isn’t a priority free agency pickup so much as a stash at this point.

Monangai is currently in a walking boot and is considered week-to-week, per head coach Ben Johnson. Monangai reportedly consulted a specialist for his turf toe after the injury was revealed to be worse than initially expected, but he is not considered a candidate for injured reserve at this time. Backup Roschon Johnson will be elevated to RB2 duties for the foreseeable future, but we wouldn’t expect him to see the same volume as Monangai, who has averaged 15 carries/gm through the Bears’ first four games.

We will get a better sense of Swift’s availability soon when the Bears release their final injury report of the week. After being a DNP in Wednesday’s practice, Swift was able to log a limited session on Thursday, which is a good sign for his availability with one practice left to go. Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe), who has yet to practice this week, could be at risk of missing Week 5, which could lead to a busy day for Swift, while Roschon Johnson would serve as the Bears’ RB2.

Jonah Elliss (leg) did not practice Wednesday.

Elliss suffered a lower-leg injury on his right leg in Week 6. Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that the injury is not season-ending, but did not rule out a stint on injured reserve. Either way, it sounds like Elliss will miss Week 7 and potentially more.

Christian Kirk (calf) was a full participant in Wednesday’s walkthrough practice.

Kirk was limited all of last week but starts out this week listed as a full participant for the 49ers’ Wednesday walkthrough practice. He remains on injured reserve, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said Kirk is a “possibility” for Week 7. A full practice listing is a good start and Kirk could see WR3 volume immediately with Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel dealing with injuries.

Jeremiyah Love (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Love starts out not practicing for the second straight week due to an ankle injury. He missed Week 6 against the Rams and a DNP Wednesday puts him on the wrong side of questionable to play in Week 7 against the Broncos. Love will need to practice in some capacity to have a chance of playing this week, but Tyler Allgeier is back in the RB2 range if Love cannot go.

Tyler Badie (thumb) did not practice Wednesday.

Badie was a non-participant in practice with a thumb injury. With Jonah Coleman designated to return from injured reserve, Badie does not need to be rostered for fantasy purposes.

Jaylen Waddle (chest) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Waddle briefly exited the Broncos’ Week 6 win over the Seahawks before returning to the game. He now pops up on the practice reported as a limited participant on Wednesday with a chest injury. Waddle is not in jeopardy of missing time just yet, but his poor fantasy production to start the season makes him a volatile fantasy option for Week 7 against the Cardinals.

Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Robinson is the immediate backup to Bijan Robinson in the Falcons’ backfield, seeing his best usage in run-heavy game scripts. He was limited with a hamstring injury on Wednesday but is still trending to play Week 7 against the 49ers, barring setbacks. Also limited was Olamide Zaccheaus (shoulder). Both players are depth options at best behind the Falcons’ star-studded skill players.

Divine Deablo (forearm) did not practice Wednesday.

Deablo suffered a forearm injury in Week 6 and opens Week 7 not practicing. Also not practicing was CB Billy Bowman (hamstring). Both will need to practice in some capacity to play in Week 7 against the 49ers.

Kendal Daniels (neck) was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice.

Daniels was carted off the field on a stretched in the Falcons’ Week 6 loss to the Bears. It was a scary scene that paused the game for around fifteen minutes as Daniels’ neck was stabilized after he hit his head while attempting to make a tackle. Fortunately, the rookie appears to be okay as he appeared in practice as a full participant on Wednesday.

Rashid Shaheed (hip) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Shaheed was heavily involved in the Seahawks’ high-volume passing game in Week 6. He seemingly came out of the week banged-up and will open this week as a limited practice participant. Shaheed competes with Cooper Kupp for the No. 2 pass-catching role on the team but is only a boom-or-bust option for deep leagues at this point.

Travis Kelce (ankle) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

Kelce played through an ankle issue in Week 6, catching five passes for 53 yards. Despite not playing at full health, he was still second on the team in targets. Kelce starts out the week as a limited practice participant and it would be a surprise if he misses National Tight End Day this week against the Seahawks.
