Malik Nabers is not on New York’s final Week 3 injury report.

It sure didn’t seem like he had great chemistry with Jameis Winston on Monday night, leaving Nabers feeling more like a mid-range WR2 than someone you’d really want to count on to carry you to victory in what will be a windy Week 3 game against the Titans. Still, he’s fully healthy and got in full practices in each of the last two days of the week to clear the injury report.
Is point total too low for Steelers vs. Saints?
Vaughn Dalzell and Drew Dinsick preview the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints matchup; Dinsick believes the point total is too low and suggests taking the over.

Nabers was once again heavily involved in the Giants’ passing game, getting the first offensive touch for New York. He saw 15 targets and tallied 165 scoreless yards on the day, with over half of this yardage coming with J.J. McCarthy in the fourth quarter. It’s the third straight 100-yard game for Nabers, who is now fully ramped up from his torn ACL last year. The Giants may be debating between Jameis Winston and J.J. McCarthy as the starting quarterback for next week. Regardless of the starter, Nabers sees enough volume to be a borderline WR1 for Week 7 against the Texans.

Nabers saw 15 of his targets come in the second half after the Giants opted to abandon a mostly useless ground game in a game they trailed for most of the afternoon. Nabers came up with multiple big plays as the Giants mounted their comeback attempt, with his biggest coming on a leaping 17-yard touchdown in the end zone to tie the game at 27-27 with under two minutes to go in the game. Nabers had a key drop on a screen pass in overtime that had a chance to set up a big gain, but he made up for it later in the game with a 28-yard gain as the Giants were trying to position themselves for a potential game-winning field goal attempt. Nabers has now gone for 100-plus yards in back-to-back weeks and has found the end zone in both of those games. He seems to finally be hitting his stride after a slow start to the season, and will profile as a high-end WR2 in next week’s game against the Saints.

It was presumed that Nabers would play after sitting out Wednesday with soreness in his surgically repaired knee. Though this is just our speculation, the Giants may take it easier on their star receiver this week after he hauled in 6/112/1 against the Cardinals in Week 4. He remains on the WR2 line in what has been (when not facing the Cardinals) a rough offense with Jameis Winston under center.

Nabers is currently going through route running drills with his position group, putting him on track to play in Week 5 against the Commanders. Nabers sat out yesterday, citing extra soreness in his surgically repaired knee, but told ESPN’s Jordan Raanan that he usually feels better as the week progresses. A WR1 finish is in play this week, assuming he is active. He was later listed as limited on Thursday.

Earlier today, The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reported that Nabers sat in the rehab section, speaking with the team’s head trainer during individual drills before seemingly going through some sort of rehab routine. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan then reported that Nabers said he was feeling “more sore than usual,” and “did as much as he could at practice.” When asked whether this could affect his ability to play in Week 5 against the Commanders, Nabers said, “we’ll see,” adding that it usually gets better as the week progresses. We tentatively expect Nabers to play, though this is worth monitoring closely.

Nabers’ first 100-yard game of the season almost didn’t happen after he re-injured his shoulder on a soaring first quarter reception, his first catch of the afternoon. He thankfully shook it off and went on to score his first touchdown, as well, a 25-yarder in the second quarter. He got matched up 1-on-1 with LB Mack Wilson, and Jameis Winston did not miss. It was a desperately needed outing for fantasy managers who were beginning to wonder if Nabers would even produce WR2 returns, let alone WR1. The top 12 is probably still a little far fetched, but this was an encouraging outing heading into next week’s road date with the Commanders.

The good news is that Nabers didn’t appear bothered by his shoulder injury and led the Giants with a 27 percent target share. The bad news is everything else. With Jameis Winston under center, the Giants took the air out of the ball and ran 33 times compared to just 22 pass attempts. Winston also stuck mostly to check-down duties, taking any chance of a big play for Nabers off the table. The Giants should be forced to throw more next week, but this isn’t going to be an exciting offense without Jaxson Dart under center. Nabers is likely stuck in the WR2 ranks for Week 4 versus the Cardinals.

Nabers speaking to the media is likely also good news for his availability on Sunday. The 23-year-old wideout is practicing and upgraded to full today, so he’s likely to be good to go and has a chance at avoiding a questionable tag on Friday altogether.

Nabers hurt his shoulder in the Giants’ Week 2 loss to the Rams, staying in the game and catching zero passes after the injury. The Giants had a walkthrough practice on Wednesday, listing Nabers as limited. When asked if the 23-year-old had X-rays done, head coach John Harbaugh gave his usual vague answer, saying, “I don’t know.” A limited practice listing indicates Nabers is not dealing with a major issue, but his practice status is worth monitoring leading up to Week 3 against the Titans.
  • NYG Wide Receiver #1
Nabers departed the game at the end of the first quarter with a shoulder injury but was able to return after missing only one drive. His putrid box score can largely be attributed to uneven quarterback play from backup Jameis Winston, whom came on in relief of the injured Jaxson Dart after the team’s first possession. Beyond the fact that fantasy managers were left with a near goose egg from their third round selection, Nabers could be forced to contend with backup-level quarterback play in the coming weeks considering the mechanism of Dart’s knee injury. Even so, it will be difficult to sit Nabers in a cake matchup with the Titans in Week 3, making him a classic hold-your-breath start.

Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds will lead the team’s personnel department for the remainder of the season.

With the Colts sitting on a 2-4 record and the trade deadline 22 days away, Dodds could be involved in some key roster decisions over the next three weeks. Dodds was hired as the Colts’ vice president of player personnel in 2017 and has been a candidate for several GM openings over the last few offseasons. Depending on how things go the rest of the way, it’s possible Dodds earns a chance to be promoted to the Colts GM position next offseason after the team fired Chris Ballard earlier in the day.

Ja’Kobi Lane caught 4-of-5 targets for 40 yards in the Ravens’ Week 6 loss to the Browns.

Lane was immediately involved in the offense after missing the previous four weeks with a wrist injury. The rookie third-rounder caught two of his four passes on the Ravens’ opening drive that ended with a short touchdown pass to Josh Cuevas and ran 22 routes on the day. Zay Flowers (34) and Devontez Walker (26) both ran more routes than Lane on the afternoon, but Lane has been targeted on 21.1 percent of his routes in limited action this season. Fantasy managers shouldn’t be looking to start him in Week 7 against the Bengals, but the early volume is encouraging for a player who was hyped up throughout training camp.

Jordan Davis (ankle) told reporters x-rays were negative on his ankle and he feels “OK” at this point.

Davis is still a candidate to be limited in practice this week, but it doesn’t look like this injury is a major threat to send him to injured reserve or anything like that. Talking with the media after the game is a good sign for his future ability.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Jalen Hurts “will be out an estimated three months as he undergoes treatment” for blood clots.

This would effectively end Hurts’ season, as a three-month absence would have him on track to return some time in late-January/early-February. In a statement released by Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lyyn, she said further tests revealed “deep vein thrombosis as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli.” She said that Hurts is stable and is not expected to have any “functional limitations” and that his treatment to resolve his blood clotting issues “should only involve anticoagulation [i.e., ‘blood thinners’].” As a result, Hurts will not be permitted to engage in football activities and will not be allowed to resume them until he is off his blood thinners. The good news here is that Hurts is expected to make a full recovery, and the doctors do not believe this will have a long-term effect on him moving forward. Hurts threw for 933 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions this season while completing 57.8 percent of his passes — his lowest mark since his rookie season. He ran for another 107 yards and one touchdown as he and the Eagles struggled in his first five starts under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. He remains under contract through the 2028 season, but Hurts has faced his fair share of scrutiny since leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl title in 2024. Hurts’ contract situation would suggest his job is more than secured for the foreseeable future, but this is the same Eagles front office that used a 2020 second round pick to select him as the heir apparent to Carson Wentz, who signed a four-year extension with the team in 2019. While we fully expect Hurts to be back with the Eagles next season, we can’t rule out the team using an early draft pick on a quarterback in a draft that is projected to be one of the more QB-rich drafts in recent memory. Tanner McKee, who started Week 6’s game against the Panthers, will take over as the team’s starter going forward.

    Falcons released Cooper Rush.

Rush’s release came after the Falcons signed Andy Dalton. Rush had a rough stretch with the Falcons, throwing for 229-1-4 in his two starts while completing 56.4 percent of his passes. Once regarded as one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league, Rush has struggled mightily in his two seasons away from the Cowboys, going 0-4 in his starts since 2024 while throwing one touchdown to eight interceptions. He could catch on elsewhere as a practice squad option in the coming days, but he seems like a long shot to start another game in 2026.

Bam Knight suffered from “full body cramps” for much of the second half of Arizona’s Week 6 win over the Rams.

The good news is that this shouldn’t exactly be expected to sideline Knight going forward after his 98-total yard effort against the Rams. Knight’s fantasy value is tenuous despite the big game, as he was outsnapped by Tyler Allgeier and Jeremiyah Love (ankle) could be back next week. But he did outplay Allgeier in Week 6.

Falcons signed Andy Dalton, formerly of the Eagles.

Dalton had a chance to re-sign with the Eagles after being let go by them earlier in the week, but he spurned them to sign with Atlanta. The 38-year-old vet will presumably serve as the Falcons’ third-string QB for now, but could be one injury away from seeing playing time. Dalton threw for 293-1-1 on 37 pass attempts for the Panthers last season and has not started more than five games in a season since 2022.

    Colts fired GM Chris Ballard.

The team announced its decision to move on from Ballard early Monday morning. The Colts opted to retain Ballard for a 10th season earlier this offseason despite a monumental collapse in the second half of last season that saw the team finish 8-9 after getting off to an 8-2 start. Ballard was hired as the Colts GM in 2017 and leaves with just two postseason berths and zero division titles to his name. The abrupt retirement of Andrew Luck before the start of the 2018 season presented an early challenge for Ballard to suddenly find a new QB, which often resulted in short-term answers to solve a long-term problem. After the likes of Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, and Carson Wentz passed through the organization, the Colts finally selected Anthony Richardson in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft in hopes of landing their guy. When it became apparent Richardson wasn’t the answer, the team signed Daniel Jones, who turned in a solid 2025 campaign and was rewarded with a two-year, $88 million contract earlier this offseason. Among the multiple missteps by Ballard during his Colts tenure is the trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner, whom he acquired in exchange for the team’s 2026 and 2027 first-round picks. Few GMs get the leash that Ballard was provided with by the Colts, but this felt like a move that was destined to happen now or at the end of the season. Now, the Colts can get a head start on their next GM search in what is shaping up to be another rough season. The team announced that head coach Shane Steichen will remain in his role for now.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh said he “can’t answer that now” when asked about who his starting quarterback would be heading into Week 7 against the Texans.

It’s the exact kind of answer we would expect from a coach who is just minutes removed from his team nearly completing a comeback victory. J.J. McCarthy stepped in for Jameis Winston in the fourth quarter and lit up the Saints for 243 yards and one touchdown in the fourth quarter, leading the Giants on three scoring drives and 17 unanswered points in a game that the Saints won 34-27. Whether it’s in Week 7 or a point later in the season, McCarthy feels like a lock to start multiple games for the Giants, who now sit at 3-2-1 on the season. The Jameis Winston Experience, while fun, is often short-lived, and his underwhelming performance on Sunday against the Saints (152-1-2) comes a week after Winston struggled for the entire first half against the Commanders before he turned it on in the second half. Harbaugh will likely announce his Week 7 starter in the coming days, but it wouldn’t be surprising to learn the team is handing McCarthy the keys for the remainder of the season.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore said Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) traveled with the team to Paris for Week 7’s game against the Steelers.

The Saints have not opened Tyson’s 21-day window for return, but the fact that he traveled with the team suggests his window could be opened later this week, which would allow him to begin practicing with the team. There’s some belief that Tyson could return in Week 9 after the Saints’ bye week, but the team hasn’t committed to a return date for him just yet. We wouldn’t expect Tyson to suit up this week against the Steelers.
