Kimani Vidal had eight rushes for 23 yards in the Chargers’ Week 8 loss to the Rams, adding two catches for seven yards.

Vidal was second on the team in rushing attempts behind Omarion Hampton (9) and ran the second most pass routes behind Keaton Mitchell. Vidal won’t be a legit fantasy option unless Hampton misses time in the coming weeks. He’s a decent stash in deeper formats for now.

Vidal got much of his work in the first quarter before Omarion Hampton worked into the backfield later in the game. Hampton ended up leading the Bolts backfield in both routes and targets, with Vidal a close second in both categories. When the Chargers return from the bye week, Vidal could see an increased role as the team looks elsewhere for production. He should be rostered in most deep formats.

Vidal showed off his potential to be a big-play back on a 42-yard touchdown that gave the Chargers a 17-10 lead. The 25-year-old did nothing outside of that carry, but in a game where offense was limited — limited is putting it nicely — it stood out. Vidal was more effective than Omarion Hampton (33 yards on 14 carries) and Keaton Mitchell (11 on six) but still seems likely to be behind both for Week 6 against the Chiefs.

Vidal took a flip pass from Justin Herbert for a touchdown to get the Chargers to within two scores. The 25-year-old saw plenty of reps as Los Angeles is clearly committed to the committee approach — no running back had more than ten carries — but outside of that score, he didn’t do much with them. The Chargers take on the Broncos in Week 5 and Vidal remains off the fantasy radar.

Mitchell’s box score would have looked a lot better if his 21-yard reception on a route out of the backfield had not been called back due to a penalty. Chargers starting RB Omarion Hampton played all three snaps on the opening drive before giving way to Mitchell, who played 10-of-10 snaps on the second and third drives. Fellow backup RB Kimani Vidal took the field as the Chargers’ kick returner to begin the game. He made his first appearance on offense on the Chargers’ fourth drive. Mitchell could return standalone FLEX value with big-play upside in this role. He reportedly visited the blue medical tent, but was allowed to return to the sideline. Hopefully, this is a non-issue.

Vidal stayed in for two drives and did not catch his only target. Tonight’s start suggests Vidal is behind RB Keaton Mitchell on the depth chart. Mitchell did not play, nor did starting RB Omarion Hampton. Vidal is a proven, capable fill-in starter, but he should only be drafted as the Chargers’ RB3 at this time.

Earlier this week, McDaniel said he plans to employ a hot-hand approach at the running back position and plans to “use all three of those guys probably every game.” NFL Daily co-hosts Gregg Rosenthal and Jourdan Rodrigue helpfully followed up on those comments, specifically regarding their fantasy football implications. McDaniel encouragingly prefaced his response by saying, “no one has to worry,” adding that benching productive players is “bad business.” If you were already bullish on one or more of Omarion Hampton, Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal, these comments can be taken positively. Reading between the lines, if Hampton, the starter, proves his value as the team’s RB1, he should receive a fantasy-friendly workload.

Speaking to reporters Monday, Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel said that all three of Omarion Hampton, Keaton Mitchell, and Kimani Vidal will be featured in the backfield this season. “Good news is I see all three of those guys performing at a very high level,” McDaniel said. “Kinda play hot hand once you’re into games.” While that’s not the best news for fantasy managers that invested second round picks into Hampton, the opportunity for the Chargers to turn heads on the scoreboard could result in a case of “a rising tide raises all ships.” McDaniel famously, and recently, made two backs top-six producers in fantasy points per game in the same season, with both Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane finishing 2023 in that range. Whether a similar situation transpires in Los Angeles remains to be seen.

It’s the kind of thing fantasy managers hate to hear. When speaking about his running backs on Monday, McDaniel said, “I see all three producing at a very high level,” while saying the workload for each back could depend on the opponent and who has the “hot hand.” While it’s certainly concerning on the surface, we feel pretty confident in Omarion Hampton having the safest role as far as fantasy is concerned, while Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal could prove a bit more volatile. Their volatility has been baked into their ADP all offseason, as Mitchell is often going in the 12th or 13th round of drafts while Vidal often goes undrafted. It may take some time to get a good sense of McDaniel’s plans for the backfield, but we would expect a clear-cut RB1 and RB2 to emerge this season.

Per Popper, the Chargers really like Mitchell’s ability to “press the edge and get explosives to the outside.” That said, Popper believes Vidal will “give Mitchell a push” for the role. He also believes that both players will make the final roster, regardless. If this is how the depth chart shakes out, one wonders whether Vidal could sneak onto the field in certain passing situations, potentially reducing Mitchell’s standalone viability. Mitchell was seen working in the passing game last week, though — something he rarely did in Baltimore — so it is too early to tell.

Vidal, Moton said, could drop to RB3 on the Chargers’ depth chart this offseason if free agent signing Keaton Mitchell is healthy following a 2024 knee injury that kept him sidelined for much of the 2025 season in Baltimore. The Chargers in march re-signed Vidal to a one-year deal as an exclusive rights free agent after he ran for 643 yards and three touchdowns during the 2025 season. He also caught 16 passes on 20 targets, mostly when Omarion Hampton was sidelined with injury. Look for Mitchell to gain steam in fantasy circles if Vidal leaves LA in the coming weeks or months.

Jakobi Meyers (hamstring/ankle) was listed as limited on Monday’s estimated practice report.

The veteran receiver played through both ailments in Week 8 but was limited to only 54 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in a blowout win. Fantasy managers will want to monitor his status in the coming days, with the expectation that he continues to play through the injuries against the Ravens on Thursday Night Football.

Chris Rodriguez (hand) was limited on Monday’s estimated practice report.

This appears to be a non-issue as the veteran change of pace back should be fine for Thursday Night Football against the Ravens. Of greater concern was the absence of lead back Bayshul Tuten, something fantasy managers of both players will want to monitor as Thursday draw nearer. Rodriguez would seemingly be in line for a featured role if Tuten is unable to play on a short week.

Bhayshul Tuten (ankle/foot) was listed as a “DNP” on Monday’s estimated practice report.

Tuten briefly left the team’s Week 8 win in the first quarter but returned to amass 159 total yards and two touchdowns against the overmatched Colts. Fantasy managers will want to track his status closely as the team makes a quick turn to face the Ravens on Thursday Night Football.

Justice Hill (groin) was listed as limited on Monday’s estimated practice report.

The fact he was listed as limited and not a “DNP” likely signals a more modest injury and we would expect Hill to suit up when the Ravens take on the Jaguars on Thursday Night Football in Week 9. Either way, fantasy managers likely have better options at the position.

Mark Andrews (hand) was listed as a full participant on Monday’s estimated injury report.

That keeps the veteran tight end on track to suit up in Week 9 against the Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. Andrews has struggled to return usable fantasy weeks throughout his age-31 season, with the team now down to their third, potentially fourth, quarterback for Thursday’s game. he can safely be left on fantasy benches on the short week.

Zach Charbonnet (knee) and Jadarian Price (chest) are active for Week 8 against the Bears.

Charbonnet makes his season debut after a suffering a torn ACL late in the 2025 season while Price returns from short-term injure reserve due to a chest injury. Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani had held down the backfield in the absence of the two top backs, leaving an uncertain situation regarding expected backfield utilization when the Seahawks take on the Bears in a marquee matchup. Inactive for the Seahawks are QB Drew Lock, LB Uchenna Nwosu, WR Rashid Shaheed, RB Velus Jones Jr., OT Charles Cross, G Beau Stephens, and NT Brandon Pili.

Bears declared RB Kyle Monangai, QB Case Keenum, DB Malik Muhammad, OL Jordan McFadden, DL Jayden Loving, and OL Jordan van den Berg inactive for Week 8 against the Seahawks.

No real surprises here after Monangai was ruled out for Week 8 on Saturday, leaving D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson to handle backfield duties in a difficult matchup against the Seahawks. The two had operated in a loosely split backfield before Week 7, during which Swift saw workhorse usage in a tight game against the Patriots. It would appear likely that Swift will once again see the bulk of the work considering the opponent, making him a surefire RB2 with RB1 upside to cap the Week 8 festivities.

Jesse Minter said the team is considering injured reserve for Tyler Loop (undisclosed).

Loop suffered an undisclosed injury in the Week 8 loss to the Bills, something that is reportedly serious enough to warrant injured reserve consideration. When asked if Jake Moody would be kicking on Thursday Night Football against the Jaguars, Minter replied with a simple, “At this point, yes.” The Ravens were dealt numerous injury issues in their loss to the Bills as they lost both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley, with third string rookie Joe Fagnano also emerging dinged up after taking numerous hard sacks.

Jesse Minter said Joe Fagnano (ankle) is “dealing with some things physically” but has a chance to start in Week 9.

Whelp, that isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for the rookie quarterback’s chances of starting under center for the Ravens when they host the Jaguars on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 9. The team lost both Lamar Jackson to a season-ending thumb injury and backup Tyler Huntley to a turf toe injury in their Week 8 loss to the Bills, now in desperate need of a viable quarterback option as they fight for their playoff lives. It is possible the team addresses the position through trade with just over a week until the trade deadline, although that is unlikely to help them on a short week. More to come in what quickly became a dire situation in Baltimore. Fagnano was officially listed as limited on the team’s estimated practice report Monday.

Jim Harbaugh said the team will open the 21-day practice window for David Njoku this week.

Njoku has been on the shelf since being placed on injured reserve ahead of Week 3, with the potential to return following five missed games plus the team’s Week 7 bye. The team will have 21 days to activate him from short-term injured reserve, meaning Njoku is not guaranteed to be activated in time for Week 9 against the Texans. Fantasy managers that have held Njoku through his time on injured reserve can continue patiently waiting for his return while those in shallower leagues can consider adding him from waivers before he is activated.
