Unranked Cooper Musselman makes his pro and PGA TOUR debut at this week’s Barbasol Championship in Nicholasville, Kentucky. UPDATE: Musselman finished T57 on 7-under 281 (70-69-69-73).

The Louisville native is in the field via a sponsor exemption and this is his first event on any pro circuit. He’ll leave the unpaid ranks as the No. 53-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, highlighted by winning the 2017 Kentucky Open, a 54-hole event consisting of pro and amateurs that are Kentucky residents. Musselman won the event while a senior and co-captain at the University of Kentucky and will have a childhood friend on the bag for him this week.

Sponsor invite and World No. 2006 Cooper Musselman readies for his Desert Classic debut and heads out in Round 1 at 8:50 am local time with Canadian Ben Silverman at La Quinta Country Club. UPDATE: Mussleman missed the scheduled 54-hole cut by 11 shots on 2-over 218 (70-74-74).

This is the Kentucky alum’s second career event on any pro circuit, both on sponsor exemptions. He made his pro debut at the 2018 Barbasol, staged in Nicholasville, Kentucky, where he finished T57 on 7-under 281 (70-69-69-73). Musselman was unranked in OWGR then, having left the unpaid ranks as the No. 53-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. While still a senior and co-captain at Kentucky, he won the 2017 Kentucky Open, a 54-hole event consisting of pro and amateurs that are Kentucky residents. He lists Orlando as his residence now and has limited status on the Web.com Tour this year after finishing 92nd on 12-under 276 (73-68-67-68) in the final stage of the WCT Qualifying Tournament last month.
