The 27-year-old arrived off a T16 at last week’s 3M Open in Minnesota, where he was T9 at the midpoint (70-67-67-73), and is off to another solid start in Michigan. After opening with 66, he was in a five-way T3, two short of co-leaders Tony Finau and fellow rookie Taylor Pendrith, and after a second straight 66, is now in solo 3rd alone, chasing outright leader Pendrith (65). The Alabama alum, who will be in the penultimate pairing on Saturday with rookie Cameron Young (63), owns two top 10s in 32 events and one top 3, a T3 on debut at this season’s AmEx, where he was a 54-hole co-leader. At the halfway mark, he’s totaled one eagle and 12 birdies against two bogeys, and ranks 11th SG: Tee-to-Green (4.978), 4.239 of that in R1, and 3rd SG: Putting (4.758), 4.327 of that in R2.
