Unable to seriously contend since his victory in March, Enoch has struggled with his iron-play throughout the course of this season. However, when he is able to muster up enough good approach shots to draw even with the field, he is typically not far off. Capturing finishes of T-23 at the Canary Islands Championship, T-29 at the Porsche European Open, T-14 at the Scandinavian Mixed, and T-13 at the Cazoo Classic, the 33-year-old posted positive Strokes Gained: Approach numbers in each. Coming off a poor showing at the Joburg Open, Enoch will look to flip his SA Open script as he missed the cut in his last two appearances.

The 31-year-old was born in England, but represents Wales, a common detail, following on from Ian Woosnam and Jamie Donaldson. He has some way to go before emulating either, however. He is also fighting to revive the high hopes of what he would achieve when he was in college at East Tennessee State. Now 31-years-old, he has been hitting the Challenge Tour since 2007 (as an amateur) and 2013 as a professional. For a long time, however, he would find greatest success on the Sunshine Tour. Indeed, in 2018 he won the Cape Town Open and, whilst it took a little time, that success fed into the 2019 Challenge Tour season, where he landed a win in the Slovakia Challenge. He’s made just three starts this season, managing two cuts, with a best of T36 in the South African Open. He also made the cut at the U.S. Open last year, his R2 66 being the second best card of the day, ten years after his brother Ben, another talented golfer, died in a car crash.

Enoch hails from Cornwall in England but represents Wales and will be making a somewhat emotional return to the Open, having made his debut in 2014 at Royal Liverpool, an appearance he dedicated to his brother Ben, another fine golfer who was tragically killed in a car accident on the way to the 2009 Lytham Trophy. He desperately needs the boost of a good week having plugged away on the Challenge Tour for the last four seasons with very little to show for it. He missed the cut at Hoylake and is 3-for-10 on the European Tour with a best of T44 in the 2014 Russian Open. He did, however, win the Sunshine Tour’s Cape Town Open this year and was T6 in the Scottish Challenge last month. Got his place from Final Qualifying at Notts GC.
