Marlins’ second baseman Dee Gordon made a routine out in his first at-bat of Sunday’s series finale against the Phillies. The only problem? He was the last to realize it.
After fouling off another fastball from Philadelphia starter Alec Asher, Gordon assumed the ball had landed in foul territory. He stepped out of the batter’s box and took a few hacks with his bat as Phillies’ shortstop Freddy Galvis went scrambling to make the catch down the third base line. Eventually, Gordon realized the ball had been caught and made his way to the dugout.

Gordon fell victim to Galvis’ quick reflexes again in the third inning, when he was caught stealing second after reaching first base on a force out. Through four innings, the Marlins are down 3-0 against the Phillies.
