Ray Allen believes that he will forever be a Boston Celtic.

Meanwhile, several have felt that Isaiah Thomas was done wrong by the team after being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers this week for Kyrie Irving. This looks especially bad to folks when compared to how much Thomas has given up for the team, including playing a game a day after his sister was killed in a car accident in Washington.

Former NBA veteran Caron Butler took to his Instagram on Thursday to comment on the trade, and Allen just so happened to chime in via a comment himself.

Butler posted a screenshot of a viral tweet that has gone around about Thomas playing shortly after his sister’s death.

Allen’s comment pointed out the difference in opinion when it comes to loyalty when a player makes a decision to move versus when a team makes that decision.

There’s no sense making an argument one way or the other here when it comes to how players feel. People feel how they feel, and the situation is often more complex than it is made out out to be. Still, I can’t also say that fans aren’t sometimes completely ridiculous, and in this case fans burning Thomas’ jersey is just that. That negative comments came out of Boston after he was traded is also sort of par for the course for the organization, and has to be taken with a grain of salt.

It’s fair for Celtics fans to be excited about Irving, and Thomas was the big reason why their team was what they were last season. It will be interesting to see if the two meet in the playoffs next year.
