At last check, Tristan Thompson and the Cavaliers reportedly weren’t progressing in contract talks. Thompson’s agent, Rich Paul, reportedly believed his client would get max offers if he took the qualifying offer and became an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Now?

Essentially, nobody has changed their mind as we move closer to the Oct. 1 deadline for Thompson to accept his qualifying offer. Cavaliers players can report Sept. 28, and training camp begins the following day. So, this might get decided before the absolute deadline.
But it’ll probably take a couple weeks until either side feels enough pressure to get something done.
