The Jets offense was better than many people expected it to be in Week 1, but they haven’t found the same groove against Buffalo in Week 2.
James Cook ran for two touchdowns, including a 44-yarder, to push the Bills to a 20-3 lead at MetLife Stadium. The Jets, on the other hand, have picked up just 78 yards of offense through the first 30 minutes of play.
Cook has 10 carries for 83 yards overall and the Bills have 147 yards on the ground at the break. Josh Allen has 47 of them, but he’s just 8-of-16 for 70 yards through the air.
Allen briefly left the game to have trainers stop a bloody nose that he suffered at the end of a short run late in the first quarter. Mitchell Trubisky completed a 32-yard pass while Allen was out, but Allen quickly returned with gauze in a nostril to take care of the bleeding.
Justin Fields has run five times for 49 yards, but lost a fumble, took a sack, and went 2-of-8 through the air in the first half. They’ll need to find a better approach after the break if they’re going to have any chance of making a game of this one.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen took a shot to the face late in the first quarter of Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium, but he only needed a few minutes on the sideline before returning to the game.
Allen removed his helmet and ran to the sideline after getting hit in the face by a teammate and a Jets defender on a run for no gain. CBS Sports showed trainers mopping up blood as Mitchell Trubisky entered the game.
The first quarter ended a few moments later and Allen returned to the game with gauze stuffed up one nostril to start the second quarter.
Trubisky completed a 32-yard pass to Josh Palmer on one of his two snaps and the Bills moved into Jets territory, but wound up trying a 52-yard field goal after failing to convert a third down. Matt Prater hit it and the Bills are up 10-0 with 14:02 to play in the first half.
The Bills finished strong last Sunday night and they are off to a good start this Sunday.
After forcing a quick three-and-out by the Jets, the Bills drove 81 yards for a touchdown. James Cook picked up the final 14 yards of the drive, including the one-yard touchdown that put Buffalo up 7-0 with 7:29 left in the first quarter.
It looked like the Jets were going to get off the field after forcing a third-down incompletion, but defensive end Micheal Clemons hit Bills quarterback Josh Allen high and got flagged for roughing.
Allen had a 40-yard run for the biggest gain of the drive and Cook picked up 22 yards on five carries.
The 49ers went down to the wire before determining left tackle Trent Williams’ status for Sunday’s game against the Saints.
Williams was listed as questionable because of a knee injury and the team put him through a workout that ended about two hours before the scheduled kickoff at the Superdome. That workout went well and Williams is in the lineup for Week 2.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings was also listed as questionable after hurting his shoulder in the opener. Word on Sunday morning was that he would play and he is also active for the 49ers

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones does two radio interviews per week in Dallas. With the Cowboys hosting the Giants this weekend, he added another one, in New York.
And, as Jerry often does, he said something interesting.
Appearing with Gary Myers on ESPN New York, Jones said the Cowboys called the Jets about a possible Micah Parsons trade. Jones wanted defensive tackle Quinnen Williams as the starting point for a trade.
The Jets, per Jones, did not have the resources to do the deal. Jones has consistently said that the Cowboys wanted to emerge from the transaction with a run-stuffing defensive tackle. (They eventually got Kenny Clark, if you haven’t heard, as part of a trade with the Packers.)
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported last Sunday that the Cowboys could get no traction with any AFC teams. It’s surprising, frankly, that the Bills and the Ravens weren’t boxing each other out for Parsons.
For the Ravens especially, it would have been a lot easier to hold that 15-point, fourth-quarter lead with Parsons chasing around reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen.
