The Jets have settled on their new offensive coordinator.
Frank Reich emerged as a candidate to join Aaron Glenn’s staff to call offensive plays before the Jets even fired offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand and Reich emerged as the choice after the Jets went through the official search process in the wake of Engstrand’s dismissal. The Jets officially announced the hire on Wednesday morning.
Reich was 4-8 as the interim head coach for Stanford in 2025 and he was 41-43-1 as the head coach of the Colts and Panthers in the NFL. He’s also been an offensive coordinator with the Eagles and Chargers in 20 years as a coach. He also played in the NFL for more than a decade and spent one season as a quarterback with the Jets.
“Frank has a rare combination of experience, creativity, and calm under pressure,” Glenn said in a statement. “He’s lived this game from every angle — as a quarterback in this league and as a coach who’s led offenses at the highest level. He is unique in his ability to see the game for what it is right now and adapt when appropriate. Frank understands offense and how to utilize the strengths of players. I am looking forward to how he will help this team have success.”
With the coordinator position settled, the Jets can move onto figuring out who will be leading their offense on the field. Justin Fields remains under contract, but he was benched in 2025 and the team will likely be looking for other options as they move into the offseason.
The Jets completed an in-person interview with Frank Reich for their offensive coordinator position, the team announced Tuesday.
Reich, 64, is currently a senior adviser with Stanford University. He served as the interim head coach for the Cardinal during the 2025 season, leading the team to its most wins since 2020.
Reich has over a decade of NFL coaching experience, most recently as the head coach of the Panthers (2023).
He also had a five-year stint as the head coach of the Colts (2018-22). The Colts went 40-33-1 in the regular season and made postseason trips in 2018 and 2020.
As the offensive coordinator for the Eagles from 2016-17, Reich helped lead the team to a Super Bowl LII victory. Reich also spent time as the offensive coordinator for the Chargers (2014-15).
On Monday, the Jets announced they had completed in-person interviews with Darrell Bevell and Greg Roman. Last week, the Jets conducted virtual interviews with Reich, Bevell, Roman, Ronald Curry and Lunda Wells for the OC post.
There was talk about Frank Reich joining the Jets’ coaching staff before they fired offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand and Reich remains in the picture as the team moves closer to hiring Engstrand’s successor.
Zack Rosenblatt of TheAthletic.com reports that Reich will have an in-person meeting with Reich at their team facility in New Jersey on Tuesday.
Reich is the third candidate to have a second interview for the job. Greg Roman and Darrell Bevell both spoke with the team on Monday.
Reich was Stanford’s head coach during the 2025 season. He also had stints as the head coach of the Panthers and Colts after serving as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator under Doug Pederson.
The Jets have completed in-person interviews with Darrell Bevell and Greg Roman for their offensive coordinator position, the team announced Monday night.
Bevell, 56, spent the past four seasons as the Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.
He was the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator in 2021 before taking over interim head coach duties for the team’s final four games. Bevell was also the offensive coordinator in Detroit in 2019-20 before handling the reins as interim head coach for the Lions’ final five games in 2020.
Bevell entered the NFL as an assistant quarterbacks coach with the Packers from 2003-05. He held offensive coordinator posts with the Vikings (2006-10) and Seahawks (2011-17). The Seahawks appeared in two Super Bowls during that time, and Bevell was part of Seattle’s Super Bowl XLVIII championship team.
Roman, 53, has served as NFL offensive coordinator for 12 of the past 14 seasons. He held that role with the Chargers (2024-25), Ravens (2019-22), Bills (2015-16) and 49ers (2011-14).
Roman got his start in coaching in 1995 as the Panthers’ strength and conditioning assistant and defensive quality control coach. He also worked with the defensive backs and the linebackers. Roman moved to offense in 1997 before eventually serving as Carolina’s offensive line coach in 2001.
He also has spent time with the Texans (2002-05) and was assistant offensive line coach in Baltimore in his first stint with the Ravens in 2006-07.
The Jets conducted virtual interviews with Bevell, Roman, Ronald Curry, Frank Reich and Lunda Wells last week.
If it wasn’t already clear before this year, the Pro Bowl Games needs to disappear.
The AFC quarterbacks are Shedeur Sanders, Joe Flacco and Joe Burrow after multiple quarterbacks couldn’t or wouldn’t participate.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Jets quarterback Justin Fields is one of the quarterbacks who declined the NFL’s offer, choosing instead to focus on his offseason training.
Fields started only nine games. He won two. He threw only seven touchdowns, and the Jets averaged only 20.2 points in his starts.
Yet, he somehow had a chance to earn Pro Bowl honors for the first time in his five-year career.
