Back To Jail For Charles Rogers

Former Lions receiver Charles Rogers, the No. 2 overall pick in 2003, has been put back in jail for violating the terms of his probation. Per the Associated Press, court records reveal that Rogers falsified records regarding his attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. (He also didn’t apologize to Matt Millen for making fun of Millen when he stretched the hole in the neck of one of Rogers’ sweaters.) According to the AP, Rogers likewise tested positive for alcohol. (Apparently, he’d been golfing with Matt Jones. . . . Yeah, I got a million of ‘em today.) Rogers will serve 30 days in the pokey (we never realized until this moment how unfortunately appropriate that alternative name for jail really is), and Rogers will receive credit for 15 days served.

The probation arises from a September 2008 incident resulting in charges of assault. Rogers pleaded guilty to trespassing.

By the way, the next player taken in the 2003 draft was receiver Andre Johnson.

If it makes Lions’ fans feel any better, the Texans haven’t gone to the playoffs since then, either.
