For instance, Swansea City manager Garry Monk has already told us that his side “didn’t deserve to lose” to a Stoke City side that sat “very, very deep” and “countered most of the game.” (FULL RECAP) Then, there’s Mark Hughes, manager of that very Stoke side, who claims Swansea “never really created anything of naught” (post-game television interview — above video) and never had control of the game.
Hughes, on his side’s deserved victory over Swansea:“It’s always important as an away team to take the sting out of the game. We were always a threat on the break. I thought we had some good opportunities in the first half, if we took a little more care with the final pass. … Second half, you expect Swansea to come out and they did, to a certain extent, but they never really created anything of naught.”
…
“Sometimes you think you’ve scored too early … but as I said, we had control of the game and had lots of periods of good possession where we took the sting out of situations. They never really got any momentum in the game, which was important from our point of view.”Follow @AndyEdMLS
