Iker Casillas’ storied career continued on Friday, captaining Spain to a 2-0 win over England in a friendly.

With the win, Casillas became the first player to keep 100 clean sheets in international play.

It was also Casillas’ 165th appearance for the national team, tying Latvia’s Vitalijs Astafjevs’ mark for most international appearances by a European player.

The overall record for most caps is held by Ahmed Hassan, who featured 184 times for Egypt from 1995-2012. Spanish manager Vicente del Bosque praised Casillas, and said he likely could have already passed Hassan’s all-time record.

Iker should be proud, extremely proud, of what he has achieved.

If it wasn’t for us, he may have already beaten Hassan’s record, but it has been healthy to give games to [Pepe] Reina, [Victor] Valdes and now to [David] De Gea.

Great players have to be more generous with the ones who play less and Iker is generous.

Casillas has not given up a goal for Spain since October of 2014. The team has only conceded six goals over the past 13 matches, currently on a run of six straight clean sheets.

Despite Casillas’ recent record-breaking, many still believe it is time for Manchester United’s David de Gea to get the nod as Spain’s starting goalkeeper heading into EURO 2016. The two have shared time over the past few matches, but Del Bosque has stood strong on his stance that Casillas is still the number one.
