The latest man to try and “save” Sunderland knows the pressures of Northeast England pretty well.
Sam Allardyce is the new boss of the Black Cats, taking over for Dick Advocaat, the latest manager to save the club from relegation and leave soon after.
In a press release, chairman Ellis Short called him, “the obvious best choice for the job.”
For his part, Allardyce says he hopes he will bring “stability and success” to the club, admitting it’s a “challenging job.”
Sunderland is one point ahead of Allardyce’s previous Northeast club, Newcastle United, for 19th place in the Premier League table. He begins his tenure five points out of safety.
Allardyce spent 2011-15 at West Ham United, and has also managed Blackburn, Bolton, Notts County and Blackpool.
