A prosecutor in Spain has named Manchester United midfield Ander Herrera in an alleged match-fixing scandal.
Herrera, 25, has denied the accusations which date back to his time playing for Spanish side Real Zaragoza.

The central midfielder joined United from Spanish side Athletic Bilbao for $42 million this summer and despite a bright start to this career at Old Trafford, Herrera has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks after injuries curtailed his progress in the Premier League.

On his official Facebook page, Herrera had the following to say about the accusations.
“I have never had and will never have anything to do with manipulating match results. If I am ever called to testify in any judicial hearing, I’ll be happy to attend, as my conscience is totally clear.”
Herrera was just one of a number of high-profile individuals named in the alleged match-fixing scheme. Atletico Madrid captain Gabriel “Gabi” Fernandez and Japanese national team coach Javier Aguirre are among those accused of wrongdoing, plus Zaragoza officials are also said to be involved in allegedly fixing a 2-1 win over Levante on May 21, 2011.
Despite pleading his innocence, Herrera could face jail time if found guilty as match-fixing in Spain is taken very seriously and penalties include prison sentences.
