Premier League Player of the Week — Round 17

Think back in time by roughly five months, to a time before the 2015-16 Premier League kicked off in early August. Try your best to recall your preseason predictions for me.

Now, tell me where in the league table you slotted newly-promoted Watford, if you can. I’m going to go ahead and guess you didn’t have the Hornets sitting seventh in the league, yet after 17 rounds, here we are.

Odion Ighalo is, thanks to his 12 league goals scored, an early contender for Premier League Player of the Year. Without the Nigerian goalscoring machine, who knows where Watford would be.

Of course, end-of-season awards aren’t handed out until the end of the season, so for now, the 26-year-old Ighalo will have to settle for Premier League Player of the Week following his two-goal performance in Watford’s 3-0 thrashing of Liverpool on Sunday.
