Veronica Burton amassed 30 points (10-of-13 FGs, 4-of-6 FTs), seven rebounds, seven assists, one steal and six three-pointers in Wednesday’s win over the Mystics.
While Burton and the Valkyries had to hold off the Mystics after building a massive lead, they put on a show from beyond the arc. Golden State hit a franchise-record 15 triples on 32 attempts, with Burton being one of two Valkyries to make six, with Cecilia Zandalasini being the other. Burton’s 30 points were a career-high for the guard, who has surpassed 20 points four times in her career (all this season). She also, according to Across the Timeline, became the third player in WNBA history to amass at least 30 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a game while shooting 75 percent or better from the field. After three seasons in which she averaged no more than 3.1 points per game, Burton has been one of the most-improved players in the WNBA, an important reason why the expansion team is in the hunt for a playoff spot.
