Sucre apparently solved his contract dispute with the Orioles. He was designated for assignment last Sunday and then sent outright to Norfolk a few days later. The 31-year-old catcher batted .210/.269/.242 in 20 games with Baltimore to open the 2019 regular season.

It’s both Rumfield’s first four-hit game and his first four-RBI game. The homer came off reliever Caleb Ferguson, making it his second off a left-hander in 116 plate appearances this season. He had been without a home run since June 21, but it wasn’t mattering much; he hit .351 over 21 games during the span anyway. He’s now eighth in the majors with a .302 average and 17th with an .868 OPS. His mediocre exit velocity numbers don’t really back those figures up, but he’s been a big find for a player who was passed over in the Rule 5 draft before being acquired from the Yankees.

Jose Trevino, of all people, homered off him twice. Sugano didn’t have much issue with anyone else. He’s now a rather stunning 9-4 with a 4.76 ERA. He’s the first Rockies starter to win nine games in a season since Austin Gomber in 2023. The last to reach double figures was Germán Márquez, who had 12 in 2021. It’s unclear if Sugano will get the chance to enter that territory, as the Rockies would surely part with him in return for a solid prospect before the deadline. He still might be a tough sell to contenders, though, given his paltry 13.3 percent strikeout rate. He’ll pitch in Milwaukee next weekend.

Lowder threw 48 pitches today. The Rockies swung at 33 of them and put 16 into play for 11 hits. It was Coors Field, but this was still a rare pounding. Since 2020, he’s the ninth road pitcher to give up eight runs in Coors and the second to surrender 11 hits in fewer than three innings, joining Miles Mikolas on Aug. 9, 2022. Lowder dropped to 3-7 with a 5.75 ERA. He belongs in Triple-A at this point, but it probably won’t happen with Nick Lodolo on the IL. It might later; if the Reds stick him in the minors for about six weeks, he’d conclude the season with just less than two years of service time, pushing his free agency back by a year.

Carrigg didn’t start Friday in the first game after the break, sitting in favor of Tyler Freeman and Troy Johnston. Had he been in center, he probably would have done a better job on Spencer Steer’s inside-the-park homer in the eighth. Carrigg likely isn’t as good as his current .288/.371/.529 line, but it’s weird that the Rockies are still treating him as a part-timer when he’s outplaying most of the alternatives (Jake McCarthy being the exception) and he’s the one guy on their roster likely to be a part of the team’s 2028 outfield.

Both homers came off Tomoyuki Sugano. The first was projected at 395 feet, even though it fell short of being a hard-hit ball in leaving his bat at 93.7 mph. It’s Trevino’s third career two-homer game. His other two came with the Yankees in 2022 and ’24. Trevino is 9-for-19 with three homers and six RBI in his five starts this month, but he’ll likely be back on the bench in favor of Tyler Stephenson on Sunday.

Sterner was shellacked for six runs over just 1/3 of an inning against the Nationals on Friday, and apparently wasn’t close to 100 percent. He’ll be out at least two weeks, but knee injuries often will have longer stints on the injured list. Geoff Hartlieb is up to take Sterner’s place on the active roster.

Hartlieb is taking the roster spot of Justin Sterner, with Sterner unfortunately headed to the injured list in the corresponding move. Hartlieb will be a mid-inning option without fantasy significance in that role for the foreseeable future.

Moffett was an undrafted hurler who pitched at both LSU and Texas before signing with Chicago. He’s really struggled — struggled is an understatement — with 9.67 ERA and 25/42 K/BB ratio at the Low-A and short-season levels. He’s basically just a lottery ticket the A’s will try and get more strikes out of.

Civale leaves the A’s after forging a 5.47 ERA and 58/23 K/BB over 74 2/3 innings over his 16 appearances — 15 of those starts — in his lone season in Sacramento. The right-hander will get a chance to start for Chicago, but fantasy managers would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach before investing in him as anything more than a streamer against the worst lineups.

Rogers reports that the Cubs will trade right-hander Aiden Moffitt in return. The Athletics designated Civale for assignment Wednesday, and it’s not surprising that they found a trade partner, and specifically a trade partner that needs rotation help like the Cubs. The right-hander has been awful after a terrific first nine starts for the A’s, but he’ll get a chance to rebound while playing behind a better club in Chicago. It’s also worth noting that Civale had some brief success with the Cubs last year with a 2.08 ERA in five appearances over 13 innings.
