    Mariners released 2B Kolten Wong.
Wong went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will head out to test the free agent waters. The 32-year-old veteran second baseman batted a calamitous 165/.241/.227 with two homers and 19 RBI in 216 plate appearances this season in his Mariners debut.

Mets selected the contract of LHP Zach Thornton from Triple-A Syracuse.
The 24-year-old Thornton will be making his major league debut in a start against the Nationals tonight. The 2023 fifth-round pick had a 3.16 ERA and a 40/12 K/BB in 37 innings over seven starts for Syracuse.
Turang is an 'emerging superstar' for Brewers
CC Sabathia and Ahmed Fareed shine a light on Brice Turang's impressive season, who has "taken a jump" this year for the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #54
Mets optioned RHP Daniel Duarte to Triple-A Syracuse.
Duarte pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings Tuesday in his Mets debut. He’ll be a candidate to be recalled next time the team needs a reliever.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #20
Marlins optioned LHP Braxton Garrett to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Garrett figured to be in the Marlins’ rotation for the long haul, but that was before he walked eight and allowed seven runs over 4 1/3 innings in two starts. He’ll try to figure things out in Jacksonville, where he had a 2.30 ERA but also a surprisingly high 12.3 percent walk rate in six starts before being called up.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #38
Rockies placed RHP Victor Vodnik on the 15-day injured list with right ulnar nerve inflammation.
Vodnik had four saves for the Rockies last month, but he’d really struggled of late, giving up 14 runs in his last nine innings of work. Not that we’re recommending any Rockies relievers, but Juan Mejia and Antonio Senzatela are probably slightly better bets for saves with Vodnik out.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #34
Rockies selected the contract of RHP Keegan Thompson from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Thompson is back in the majors for the first time since 2024. He had a 3.34 ERA but just 19 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings for Albuquerque. He’s made five starts and thrown as many as 4 2/3 innings at a time, so he’s stretched out to go long if needed.
  • COL 1st Baseman #16
Rockies designated 1B Blaine Crim for assignment.
Crim lost his chance to make the Rockies this spring because of an oblique strain, though he was ready for the start of the minor league season. He’s hitting .265/.339/.449 in 36 games for Triple-A Albuquerque, and he’ll remain with the club if he clears waivers.
  • SEA Shortstop #3
J.P. Crawford was scratched Wednesday with triceps soreness, but he took groundballs at third base before the game.
Crawford indicated that he’s open to switching positions with Colt Emerson up, and the Mariners probably ought to take him up on it. For now, though, he’s still day-to-day after getting hit by a pitch in Sunday’s game.
  • AZ Right Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll is sitting Wednesday after taking a throw off his head during Tuesday’s game.
Carroll passed “every test” after the incident, according to manager Torey Lovullo, and is available off the bench today. He’ll be back in the starting lineup on Thursday. Jorge Barrosa is playing right field today.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #58
Marlins recalled LHP Cade Gibson from Triple-A Jacksonville
Gibson is taking Braxton Garrett’s place on the active roster, but not in the rotation. He’ll give the Marlins an additional option out of the bullpen while they determine who moves into the rotation.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #49
Mariners optioned LHP Robinson Ortiz to Triple-A Tacoma
Ortiz was called up on Monday, but the Mariners activated Matt Brash (lat) from the injured list on Wednesday, so Ortiz will be sent back down.
