He’s checked every conceivable box since making his stateside debut last year and his rapid trajectory towards Milwaukee puts him on pace to potentially reach the majors by the end of the year.

Ardaya adds that there’s optimism based on initial imaging that George didn’t suffer any ligament damage when he injured while avoiding a collision with the team’s bat dog near the dugout during a game for Double-A Tulsa earlier this week. Yes, you read that last sentence correctly. The 21-year-old former first-round pick was having a strong season overall, hitting .333/.427/.397 with 26 steals in 200 plate appearances over 43 games. It’s the first time Beavers has hit since landing on the shelf with a low-grade oblique strain back on May 13. The 24-year-old rookie outfielder figures to be ready to jump back into Baltimore’s lineup at some point in early-to-mid June.

Mize walked off the mound extremely slowly at the conclusion of the fourth inning and didn’t come back out for the fifth. He was shown leaving Detroit’s dugout accompanied by a trainer. He struck out six and allowed just three baserunners over four shutout frames. It’s worth noting that he was in just his third start back from the injured list after missing time with a groin strain. There should be an additional update on his status shortly.

Polanco’s return timeline remains a bit murky, but he’s going to need at least one or two weeks of rehab contests to get back up to speed following a six-week layoff recovering from Achilles bursitis and a right wrist contusion that put him on the shelf back on April 18. He went 1-for-2 with a single in his rehab debut on Wednesday afternoon. The 32-year-old first baseman will likely have to manage the Achilles issue for the remainder of the season but there’s optimism he’ll manage to avoid surgery.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated that Freeland will receive more playing time than Hyeseong Kim while both are on the active roster. The 24-year-old infielder is back with Los Angeles after Enrique Hernández hit the injured list with a significant tear in his oblique muscle. He’s hit .235 (23-for-98) with two homers and eight RBI in 112 plate appearances over 33 games in the big leagues this season.

It’s a brutal development for Hernández as he winds up back on the shelf after just two games back with the Dodgers following offseason elbow surgery. The versatile 34-year-old underwent an MRI that revealed a significant tear in his oblique muscle that figures to sideline him for at least a couple months.
