The dynamic 21-year-old sustained the injury when he crashed into the outfield fence while chasing a fly ball. No word yet on the severity of the sprain, but Mets’ officials are optimistic that it won’t hinder his regular off-season routine. Williams finishes the fall season hitting .225/.376/.388 with a pair of homers, nine RBI, seven stolen bases and a 30/17 K/BB ratio over 80 at-bats in his 22 games.

Lewis made his first career appearance at the position late during Saturday’s game and now will draw his first start there on Sunday. The 27-year-old slugger was lighting the world on fire at the Triple-A level once again before going 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout during his return to the Twins on Saturday.

Twins’ skipper Derek Shelton told reporters that the club considered putting Buxton in the lineup as the designated hitter but ultimately decided it was best to give him another day off following Friday’s collision with the center field wall. He’s still considered day-to-day and it’s possible he could be used off the bench on Sunday.

Nothing has changed in the prognosis for Devenski who has been shelved since early May due to an illness. This was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Pirates’ 40-man roster for the addition of Davis Wendzel on Sunday.

With Brandon Lowe (leg) expected to miss a couple of games, Wendzel will provide the Pirates with extra depth on the infield. It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 29-year-old infielder since he saw 49 plate appearances with the Rangers during the 2024 campaign. Wendzel was slashing .246/.360/.491 with nine homers, 34 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 211 plate appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 23-year-old slugger struggled in his limited action with the Pirates, hitting .200 (7-for-35) with no homers, two RBI and a 10/1 K/BB ratio in 37 plate appearances. He’ll continue to refine his craft in an everyday role at the Triple-A level. The Pirates selected the contract of Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move on Sunday.

The 38-year-old right-hander threw a bullpen session on Saturday and noted that everything felt good. He’s expected to face live hitters for the first time in the coming days and may not require a minor league rehab assignment before rejoining the Rays’ bullpen.

Verlander looked sharp in his first rehab outing, firing five shutout innings and sustaining his velocity over 64 pitches. If all goes well, this will be his final tune-up before making his triumphant return to the Tigers’ rotation. With Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal also expected to rejoin the Tigers’ rotation in the next week or so, the club will have some major decisions to make on how to structure their rotation. It’s possible that they move to a six-man rotation for a couple of turns and/or use a piggyback situation with a couple of their starters.

Mize has been on the injured list since May 28 due to right adductor inflammation — the second time this season that same injury has put him on the shelf. He’s only expected to need one tune-up in the minors before being ready to rejoin the Tigers’ rotation. With Mize, Justin Verlander and Tarik Skubal all nearing returns, the Tigers’ rotation is going to get awfully crowded in a couple of weeks.

Henry threw 36 pitches over two innings on Friday night and may not have been available for multiple innings on Sunday if needed, so the Nationals promoted Riley Cornelio to take his place on Sunday. Henry, 26, holds a disappointing 6.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and a 13/6 K/BB ratio over 12 innings in 10 appearances with the Nats this season.

He’ll take the place of Cole Henry on the club’s active roster. It remains to be seen how the Nationals plan to utilize Cornelio this time around. After being used almost exclusively as a starter in the minors, he was used in a bulk role out of the bullpen the last time he was recalled by the Nats. The 26-year-old holds a 4.87 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 64/26 K/BB ratio across 44 1/3 innings in 11 appearances (nine starts) at the Triple-A level this season.
