Kris Norton of WITZ Radio reports that the White Sox plan to promote top prospect Colson Montgomery in advance of their weekend series against the Rockies in Colorado.

The 23-year-old shortstop was hitting just .218/.298/.435 with 11 homers, 30 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 242 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. With his elevated strikeout rate, fantasy managers shouldn’t anticipate immediate success at the big league level — even if he feasts on the weak pitching of the Rockies over the weekend.

Jac Caglianone (shoulder) was held out of the Royals’ starting lineup for Sunday’s matchup against the Twins.

The 23-year-old slugger was removed from Saturday’s game due to soreness in his shoulder that he suffered from running into the wall on Friday night. He’ll get Sunday off as a precautionary measure as well. Tyler Tolbert will start in his place in right field and will bat ninth against Twins’ left-hander Connor Prielipp.

Rockies optioned RHP TJ Shook to Triple-A Albuquerque.

The 28-year-old hurler made three appearances during his brief stay with the Rockies, posting a 4.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 3/0 K/BB ratio while serving up a pair of homers in 3 2/3 innings of work. He was unlikely to be available on Sunday after throwing 33 pitches over 1 2/3 innings on Saturday though, so the Rockies decided to swap him out for a fresh arm. He should get another chance with the big league club before the summer is through.

Rockies recalled LHP Sammy Peralta from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Peralta will get another opportunity to work out of the Rockies’ bullpen with TJ Shook getting optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. The 28-year-old southpaw has allowed two runs on two hits and two walks over 2/3 of an inning in one appearance with the big league club this season.

AZ Relief Pitcher #50

Diamondbacks optioned LHP Philip Abner to Triple-A Reno.

Abner joined the Diamondbacks’ bullpen on Thursday when Taylor Clarke went on the bereavement list and now will head right back to Triple-A with Clarke returning. The 24-year-old southpaw has surrendered seven runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings with the Diamondbacks this season, good for a cringe-inducing 17.18 ERA and 2.18 WHIP.

AZ Relief Pitcher #45

Diamondbacks activated RHP Taylor Clarke from the bereavement list.

The 33-year-old hurler rejoins the Diamondbacks’ bullpen after being away for a few days. He has been outstanding over 28 appearances this season, posting a brilliant 1.73 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and a 13/4 K/BB ratio over 26 innings of work. Phillip Abner was optioned to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move on Sunday.

MIN 3rd Baseman #23

Royce Lewis will make his first career start at first base on Sunday afternoon against the Royals.

Lewis made his first career appearance at the position late during Saturday’s game and now will draw his first start there on Sunday. The 27-year-old slugger was lighting the world on fire at the Triple-A level once again before going 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout during his return to the Twins on Saturday.

Byron Buxton

MIN Center Fielder #25

Byron Buxton (shoulder) is not in the Twins’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s matchup against the Royals.

Twins’ skipper Derek Shelton told reporters that the club considered putting Buxton in the lineup as the designated hitter but ultimately decided it was best to give him another day off following Friday’s collision with the center field wall. He’s still considered day-to-day and it’s possible he could be used off the bench on Sunday.

Pirates transferred RHP Chris Devenski to the 60-day injured list.

Nothing has changed in the prognosis for Devenski who has been shelved since early May due to an illness. This was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Pirates’ 40-man roster for the addition of Davis Wendzel on Sunday.

Davis Wendzel

PIT 3rd Baseman #38

Pirates selected the contract of INF Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Indianapolis.

With Brandon Lowe (leg) expected to miss a couple of games, Wendzel will provide the Pirates with extra depth on the infield. It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 29-year-old infielder since he saw 49 plate appearances with the Rangers during the 2024 campaign. Wendzel was slashing .246/.360/.491 with nine homers, 34 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 211 plate appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis.
