Braves re-signed C Sandy León to a minor league contract.

León, who turns 37 in March, appears set to spend a third straight season in the Braves’ organization, probably at Triple-A Gwinnett. He appeared in five major league games this year, with a homer off Craig Kimbrel being his only hit in 12 at-bats.

Perez will miss another game due to soreness in his right elbow, or at least won’t draw the start. He’ll recover from the bench with Starling Marte the designated hitter and Carter Jensen behind the plate against Jesús Luzardo and the Philadelphia staff.

Nationals claimed LHP Matt Krook off waivers from the Athletics.

Krook has been gobbled up by Washington as extra left-handed relief depth after being hit hard in five relief appearances for the Athletics. He’s a worthwhile gamble for the Nationals as they continue to churn through lefty relievers in an effort to find a solution in their bullpen.

Chandler Simpson (finger) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Astros.

Simpson remains stapled to Tampa Bay’s bench after being scratched from the lineup for Friday’s game against the Astros due to right finger soreness. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Zebby Matthews was removed from Saturday’s start against the Yankees with a right foot laceration.

Matthews was lifted during a rocky fifth inning where he allowed a two-run homer to Max Schuemann before issuing back-to-back walks with two outs in the frame. He was charged with four runs over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five and also issued four walks. The 26-year-old is questionable heading into his next start against the Angels on Friday. There should be some clarity on his status at some point later this weekend.

Jalen Beeks will undergo season-ending flexor tendon surgery.

It’s a rather unexpected development since Beeks hit the injured list with back spasms last month. The well-traveled 32-year-old southpaw should be a full-go next spring. He finishes the season with a respectable 3.81 ERA across 26 innings of work.
