Logan Webb allowed seven hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts over six innings in a 10-5 win over the Nationals on Friday.
This was a classic Webb start. Despite constant traffic on the bases and the need to work out of trouble, he still found a way to finish that sixth inning. Sadly, a quality start was in sight before a two-out single by José Tena pushed the Nationals’ fourth run across in the sixth. One cause for relative concern, Webb allowed a whopping 14 hard-hit balls in this one and only forced 5 swings-and-misses. We’d like to see him flip-flop those numbers moving forward. He has a tall task next time out which is scheduled to come against the mighty Dodgers.

Alex Bregman is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.
It’s a rare off day for Bregman, who takes a break following 29 consecutive starts to open the season. Matt Shaw is at third base and hitting ninth in his place.
What happens with Castillo once Miller returns?
Eric Samulski unpacks Seattle Mariners' starting pitcher, Luis Castillo, and his early season struggles. He discuss what could happen with Castillo when Bryce Miller returns from an injury.
  • SD 3rd Baseman #13
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Manny Machado (calf) is available off the bench on Tuesday against the Cubs.
Stammen added that Machado is dealing with a left calf cramp that led to his precautionary exit from the late stages of Monday’s contest against Chicago. The 33-year-old third baseman will get some extra time off to rest and recover out of an abundance of caution, but it sounds like he’s ready if needed to pinch-hit. It certainly sounds like a relatively minor concern at this juncture. Jake Cronenworth is at the hot corner in his absence with Fernando Tatis Jr. making his fifth appearance at second base this season.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #40
Twins selected the contract of RHP Luis García from Triple-A St. Paul.
García joins Minnesota’s relief corps heading into Tuesday’s game agains the Mariners with Garrett Acton (shoulder) hitting the injured list. The 39-year-old journeyman latched on with the Twins last week after being cut loose by the Mets earlier this month following a 7.11 ERA over 6 2/3 innings.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #54
Twins placed RHP Garrett Acton on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.
Acton heads to the shelf prior to Tuesday’s game against the Mariners after posting a strong 2.74 ERA and 9/3 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings over four appearances. The 27-year-old is likely facing a lengthy absence since shoulder issues are typically multi-week issues.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #54
Twins designated RHP Zak Kent for assignment.
Kent has been removed from Minnesota’s 40-man roster to make room for veteran reliever Luis García. The 28-year-old has posted a pedestrian 4.91 ERA across 3 2/3 innings for the Twins this season.
  • SEA 3rd Baseman #33
Mariners manager Dan Wilson confirmed Brendan Donovan (groin) is on track to return from the injured list later this week.
Donovan hit the shelf with a relatively minor groin strain last week and could be activated for Friday’s series opener against the Royals once Seattle returns home from their current road trip. The 29-year-old infielder was off to an excellent start in his Mariners debut, hitting .304/.437/.518 with three homers, eight RBI and one steal through 18 games.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #45
Pirates recalled LHP Hunter Barco from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Barco provides Pittsburgh with some additional length out in relief following Monday’s bullpen game against the Cardinals. The 25-year-old southpaw was hit hard in four relief outings earlier this season, but continues to dominate at the Triple-A level. He’s an interesting prospect to keep on radar screens, but he he can safely ignored in all fantasy formats for now.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #66
Pirates optioned RHP Wilber Dotel to Triple-A Indianapolis.
This certainly qualifies as a surprise after Dotel spun four perfect innings during a bulk relief appearance against the Cardinals on Monday. The 23-year-old rookie has vastly outperformed expectations with a microscopic 1.35 ERA and 4/3 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings over three appearances this season. He’ll presumably be back at some point in a couple weeks when the Pirates need some long relief depth.
  • TB 3rd Baseman #13
Junior Caminero left Tuesday’s game against the Guardians with a trainer.
Caminero left the contest shortly after fouling a ball off home plate that bounced up and struck him on the right side of the face. He managed to stay in to complete the at-bat, but immediately went down the tunnel with a trainer afterwards and was replaced at third base by Richie Palacios. He finished 0-for-1. The 22-year-old superstar will head for X-rays to determine whether he suffered any fractures. There should be an update on his status following the contest.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #17
Shohei Ohtani is pitching on Tuesday against the Marlins, but is not in the lineup at DH.
As expected, Ohtani will pitch exclusively on Tuesday evening at Dodger Stadium. Dalton Rushing is at DH and will occupy the leadoff spot in his absence. The 31-year-old two-way superstar’s workload is being monitored closely during the early stages of the season to avoid putting too much strain on him from a physical standpoint. He should be back in the lineup for Wednesday afternoon’s series finale.
