Tiger Woods is one shot back at 12-under, but bogeyed the par-5 16th hole as play resumed on Saturday morning to fall a shot off the lead. Mike Weir, Vijay Singh and Jim Furyk are some of the contenders sitting just off the lead. The third round will start some time around 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Brett Quigley, who has been hot, is now in the field.

He was added on Monday morning as the third alternate. The 42-year-old doesn’t have any fantasy value anyway.

Quigley was the third alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry due to three withdrawals this morning. Relegated to the Beyond 150 reshuffle (Past Champion category), he should not appear on fantasy rosters. While he finished T30 at the Humana Challenge a month ago, he hasn’t posted a top 25 on the PGATOUR since October 2010.

Given he withdrew early from the Mayakoba as well and didn’t commit to the Puerto Rico Open, you figured today’s decision was imminent. His only start anywhere this year remains a T30 at the Humana Challenge.

Quigley hasn’t seen any action on the PGA TOUR since he missed the cut in last year’s edition of this event. This is just his sixth start in this event, having missed three prior cuts and finishing no better than a T30 in 2012. In a career that spans 403 starts, he’s never hoisted a trophy. He as finished runner-up on five occasions.

Quigley has Veteran Membership, so he’ll eke into a handful of fields every season, especially the opposite events that need to dig deep to fill the reserved spots. In his only other start this season, he withdrew before the second round of the Humana Challenge after opening the tournament with an 82. Even the deepest of full-season salary games should steer away from the 45-year-old.

Quigley was the fourth alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He was one of 11 to gain entry following today’s tidal wave of withdrawals. This will mark just his second start of the season (solo 80th, Humana) and his fourth in the last three seasons. He’s 240-for-404 in his PGA TOUR career and still in pursuit of his first win.

When he appeared as an alternate in the original field, it seemed to be a sign that he was willing to return to the grind. Instead, we probably won’t hear from him for a while again.
