Maguire

The St. Petersburg native (and resident) will enjoy coming back to his home state for the season finale. He’s kicked off the Web.com Tour Finals with finishes of T66-MC-MC to put himself far from The Finals 25 bubble. The 22-year-old posted five top 10s in 18 starts during the regular season, but he finished just 47th on the money list. Maguire will be one of the crowd favorites this week, but he’ll need some major fireworks this week if he wants to secure PGA TOUR status.

The Florida native traded nine birdies with six birdies in two laps around Jupiter Hills Club. Maguire would end the day two strokes clear of the closest competitors, Tyson Alexander, Joaquin Niemann, and Eugene Hong with the first two surviving a 3-for-2 playoff for the last two qualifying spots out of Tequesta. Maguire boasts a stellar college resume and is currently 6-for-10 on the Web.com Tour this season including a T5 at The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic. This will be his second appearance at the U.S. Open, finishing T58 at the 2015 edition. Notables that fell shy include: Tim Wilkinson (1-over 141), Robert Allenby (2-over 142), and Zach Wright (4-over 144).

The former FSU All-American turned pro back in November, foregoing the rest of his junior year. Before leaving school, he made the cut at last year’s U.S. Open at Chambers Bay and eventually posted 12-over 292 (T58) on rounds of 73-68-73-78. The 21-year-old has conditional status for 2016 on the Web.com Tour after finishing T74 at the 2015 WCT Qualifying Tournament. He’s teeing it up this week in a WMPO field that features several former Seminoles, including defending champ Brooks Koepka and 2014-15 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year Daniel Berger.

Maguire will be making his fifth career PGA TOUR start this week. The latest resulted in a T42 at last year’s U.S. Open. Prior to that his resume looked as follows: T58-MC-MC. The Florida State product has plenty of pedigree, leaving college during his junior year (2016) to turn pro. The starts haven’t quite piled up like he hoped, spending the majority of his time on the Web.com circuit over the last two years. Gamers should keep a close eye on Maguire because he has the talent to contend out here on the PGA TOUR, he just needs to find a bit of momentum.
