The Lakers have 12 players with guaranteed salaries, which leaves three openings on the regular-season roster.
Jabari Brown, Tarik Black, Marcelo Huertas, Jonathan Holmes and Michael Frazier are already signed to non- or partially guaranteed contracts.
But teams are allowed to carry 20 players during the offseason. So, the Lakers can add up to three more.

One spot might go to Metta World Peace. Otherwise, this is an excellent use of resources.
Get players into training camp on unguaranteed contracts. Bonus points if they’re eligible to be waived and have their D-League rights assigned to the Lakers’ affiliate (if their D-League rights aren’t already held elsewhere). Evaluate them up close. Choose the final roster from a larger pool, increasing the odds of assembling the best-possible roster.
This is what smart teams do.
Good job, Lakers.
