Multiple reports across England say German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger has been sent to train with the Manchester United reserves by new manager Jose Mourinho.

Following a difficult and injury-plagued first season in the Premier League, Schweinsteiger was been sent to train with the U-21 squad last week and has been moved to the reserve dressing room, according to the Daily Mail and others.

The reports say that Mourinho has tabbed the 32-year-old as dead weight, and has told him he can actively find a new club.

This has angered Schweinsteiger’s now-retired older brother Tobias, who spent a long career in the German lower divisions and is now an assistant in the Bayern Munich youth system.

That’s about as obvious as subtweets come.

It’s not really shocking that Mourinho doesn’t look to be in love with the prospect of keeping Schweinsteiger around. At 32 years old, last season was a lesson in mortality for the former Bayern Munich superstar. He played in just 18 Premier League matches, including just two in the 2016 calendar year as he struggled with a series of knee ligament injuries.

Things would get even tougher for Schweinsteiger if Paul Pogba arrives as is heavily rumored, as the two play in the same area of the pitch.
