To add injury to injury, mainstays Tim Howard and Phil Jagielka limped off for Everton. Plus Jonathan Walters took down Leighton Baines in what Roberto Martinez thought was a clear sending off situation. It all left the Toffees boss anything but impressed, as he said, “Everything that could go against us, did.”
The loss allowed Stoke to climb above the Toffees, who sit in 12th place and have had trouble finding Premier League success despite a good un in the UEFA Europa League.
Everton remains six points above the relegation zone and can help make amends with a Sunday win against struggled, injury-depleted Newcastle United.
