Sometimes the news happens real close to home.
I was watching Friday’s home opener at my alma mater, the University at Buffalo, when midfielder Russell Cicerone kicked off the second overtime of a match against Bryant University in style.
Cicerone, a sophomore from Michigan, darted into the center circle and lashed a 58-yard bullet over the head of the unsuspecting Bulldogs keeper.

It was the second goal of the night for Cicerone, the reigning Mid American Conference newcomer of the year.
In the interest of full disclosure, Russell played for FC Buffalo, the National Premier Soccer League club I work with, last summer. But surely you won’t deny the view-worthiness of the goal (especially given the stage and the, well, guts it takes to have that rip).
