Cubs designated RHP David Patton for assignment.
The Cubs wasted a 25-man roster spot on Patton for most of last season after taking him in the Rule 5 draft, but it never seemed that they were high on him for even a moment. Hurt in spring training this year, he was assigned to the FSL when healthy and compiled a 5.23 ERA in 10 1/3 innings out of the pen for Daytona. Odds are that he’ll clear waivers.

William Contreras went 2-for-5 with a solo homer against the Rockies on Saturday.
Contreras knocked a base hit in the first inning, then slugged a solo homer off Brennan Bernardino in the seventh, a 434-foot blast to left center to extend the Milwaukee lead. The home run was the fifth of the season for the 28-year-old backstop. He’s slashing .283/.342/.391 with 32 runs scored and 38 RBI across 257 plate appearances.

James Schiano discusses the improvement that Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has made on offense in recent weeks, including the .455 batting average and 1.409 OPS he has posted in his last five games.

Jacob Misiorowski allowed one unearned run while striking out eight batters over seven innings in a win over the Rockies on Saturday.
Misiorowski stranded two baserunners through four scoreless innings before the Rockies got a run across on an error and a hit in the fifth. He settled in for two more scoreless frames, completing seven innings for the fourth time in his last five starts. He scattered four hits and three walks while collecting eight strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander will take a 1.50 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and a 116/22 K/BB ratio across 78 innings into a start against the Phillies in Milwaukee on Friday.

Zach Agnos allowed two runs with one strikeout over three innings in a loss against the Brewers on Saturday.
Agnos opened the game, tossing the first three innings against the Brewers. He gave up a solo homer to Brice Turang in the first inning, then another solo shot to David Hamilton in the second. Agnos would pitch a scoreless third before handing it over to Blas Castaño, who gave the Rockies 2 2/3 scoreless with a pair of strikeouts. Agnos will likely open once again in a start against the Athletics at Las Vegas Stadium on Friday.
  • COL Right Fielder #2
Tyler Freeman left Saturday’s game in the sixth inning after getting hit on the helmet by a pitch.
It was a 98-mph cutter from Jacob Misiorowski that got him. Fortunately, Freeman was able to walk off the field without assistance. Sterling Thompson pinch-ran for him at first.
  • CLE 3rd Baseman #11
José Ramírez went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, two walks, and a steal in the Guardians’ 6-0 win over the Rangers on Saturday.
Ramírez led off the third inning with a solo homer off Jack Leiter to put the Guardians on the board. He then singled, stole second, and scored in the fifth. Ramírez would reach for a third time on a walk in the sixth. The 33-year-old third baseman is hitting .242/.349/.434 with 10 homers, 39 runs scored, 33 RBI, and 23 steals across 289 plate appearances. The 23 steals have Ramírez tied for the MLB lead with Bobby Witt Jr. and Nasim Nuñez.
  • CLE Shortstop #4
Brayan Rocchio went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Rangers on Saturday.
Rocchio took Jack Leiter deep for a solo home run in the fifth inning, then later knocked a base hit in the sixth. The two-hit game snaps a small, three-game hitless streak. Meanwhile, the home run is his first since May 17 and his fifth of the season. The 25-year-old infielder has enjoyed a strong season so far, hitting .283/.361/.410 with 28 runs scored, 29 RBI, and 11 steals across 235 plate appearances.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #28
Tanner Bibee held the Rangers scoreless with three strikeouts over eight innings on his way to a win on Saturday.
Bibee put together his best start of the season on Saturday, holding the Rangers scoreless over eight innings. He scattered three hits and two walks, tossing an efficient 54 of 87 pitches for strikes. He struck out three. The 27-year-old right-hander knocks a half run from his ERA, coming into the day with a 4.57 mark and ending with a 4.09 with a 1.23 WHIP and a 63/24 K/BB ratio across 77 innings. He’ll look to keep it going against the Tigers in Cleveland on Friday.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #22
Jack Leiter allowed five runs with two strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings in a loss against the Guardians on Saturday.
Leiter got off to a good start, stranding one baserunner over three scoreless innings. He then served up a solo homer to José Ramírez. Things then completely fell apart in the fifth. Brayan Rocchio took him deep for a solo homer. Leiter then gave up three more runs on a walk and three straight hits. His day would be done with two outs in the inning at 92 pitches. He struck out two. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.69 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and a 76/31 K/BB ratio across 71 innings into a start against the Red Sox in Boston on Friday.
  • MIA 3rd Baseman #8
Javier Sanoja went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in a 4-3 win over the Rays on Saturday.
Sanoja paced the Marlins’ offense here. His fifth inning blast off Rays’ starter Shane McClanahan was the first run that was scored in this game and began the domino effect that forced his exit soon thereafter. To which, his run-scoring single in the following inning was the final blow. He’s been Miami’s swiss-army knife this season, appearing at six different positions and working his way to an acceptable .702 OPS through nearly 150 plate appearances.

Tyler Zuber struck out the only batter he faced to lock down the save against the Rays on Saturday.
Zuber came in to relieve Peter Fairbanks, who did everything in his power to blow this game. After walking the lead-off batter in a three-run game, chaos ensued with another walk, a bunt hit, and a wild pitch. Eventually, a Yandy Díaz single cut the lead and the third walk of the inning put the tying run in scoring position with Junior Caminero heading to the plate. Enter Zuber who went right at him and eventually struck him out with a fastball at the letters. Zuber may not be the guy to get the next save opportunity for the Marlins, but Fairbanks’ grip on the role seems to be slipping away.
