Although the Angels are looking for a third baseman, they’re also open to bringing in a second baseman and trying Christian Moore at third.

Fellow youngsters Kyren Paris and Denzer Guzman are also working out in preparation of playing some third base. Moore, the eighth overall pick in the 2024 draft, has thus far only played second base as a pro. He isn’t guaranteed to open 2026 in the majors, but he did hit the ball harder as a rookie than his .198/.284/.370 line suggests.

Clay Holmes (fibula) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session later this week.

Holmes has been out since fracturing his fibula back in mid-May when he was struck by a comebacker. The 33-year-old was originally expected to miss three months, so it looks like he’s on track with that estimate, which puts him back in New York’s rotation by early August.
Kirby developing command with secondary pitches
Eric Samulski discusses George Kirby's fantasy upside with improved command and swing-and-miss with his secondary pitches in the curveball and sweeper after a strong outing on Monday.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Jackson Jobe (elbow) hit 100 mph during a recent bullpen session.

The premium velocity doesn’t come as a surprise given Jobe’s previous status as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. The 23-year-old is working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and figures to be an option for Detroit’s rotation during the late stages of the second half. He could make enough noise down the home stretch to inflate his price in fantasy drafts next spring.

Pete Crow-Armstrong will not compete in next month’s All-Star Home Run Derby.

Crow-Armstrong has vowed to participate at some point in his career, but it won’t be during this year’s Midsummer Classic. The 24-year-old fantasy force has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball since the start of June, crushing 10 homers across 25 contests during that span.

Junior Caminero will compete in next month’s All-Star Game Home Run Derby.

Caminero is the first entrant in this year’s derby, which will feature a revamped swing-based format instead of a timer system. The 22-year-old power hitter has crushed 22 homers in 81 games this season after launching 45 in his full-season debut last year.

Corey Seager was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Guardians with back discomfort.

Seager was lifted for rookie Cameron Cauley prior to his first at-bat of the contest. The 32-year-old fantasy stalwart has been snake-bitten by injuries this season, as he’s battled back issues in addition to missing time with a concussion earlier this month. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Michael Soroka (glute) completed a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Soroka has resumed throwing after hitting the injured list with a left glute strain back on June 20. The 28-year-old is probably going to wind up being out through next month’s All-Star break, but it qualifies as an encouraging development that he’s making some progress already.

Willy Adames (back) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

There’s no indication that the Giants are on the precipice of making a roster move with Adames sitting for the second straight contest with a lingering back issue. The 30-year-old shortstop has been dealing with back spasms since last weekend. It’ll be Casey Schmitt continuing to fill in during his ongoing absence.

Rockies activated RHP Tanner Gordon from the 15-day injured list.

Gordon draws the starting assignment for Tuesday’s contest against the Marlins in place of an injured Tomoyuki Sugano, who is dealing with a finger issue. The 28-year-old righty has been out since early June with a hip impingement. He’s posted a bloated 6.37 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 35/8 K/BB ratio across 34 1/3 innings in a swingman role this season.

Rockies optioned LHP Sean Sullivan to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Sullivan retreats to the minors to make room for swingman Tanner Gordon to return from the injured list. The 23-year-old southpaw has struggled to an inflated 8.64 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 12/9 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings over four starts since being called up back on June 12.

Luke Raley (forearm) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Angels.

Raley is presumably available off the bench, if needed, as he continues to battle a left forearm strain that has caused him to miss three straight games. It’ll be Weston Wilson drawing into the lineup in right field.
