Francisco Alvarez was removed from Thursday night’s Grapefruit League showdown against the Astros in the fourth inning due to a possible injury.
No word yet from the Mets on what exactly is going on, but Alvarez was pulled during the top half of the fourth inning after he was slated to play the entire game. It’s possible that he may have tweaked something on a swing while striking out during his first at-bat. Stay tuned, as the Mets should have an update on his status shortly.

Matthew Liberatore gave up five runs in 3 1/3 innings, but he didn’t qualify for a decision against the Mariners on Saturday.
Who will play shortstop for Mets with Lindor hurt?
James Schiano talks about the "suddenly surging" Mets, analyzing how they will recover from "ironman" Francisco Lindor suffering a calf strain and sharing why New York is "in a bit of a pickle" at the shortstop position.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo was rocked for seven runs over three innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Saturday.
  • BAL Catcher #23
Sam Huff elected free agency after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.
Huff is expected to re-sign with the Orioles, so it appears to just be a little financial incentive for him to elect free agency rather than report straight back to Triple-A. The 28-year-old will be a depth piece for Baltimore, and need to be added to the 40-man roster to join the Orioles.
  • STL Catcher #43
Pedro Pages left Saturday’s game against the Mariners with left hamstring tightness.
Pages was excellent prior to the exit; going 3-for-3 with a homer. Unfortunately he was unable to continue, and Yohei Pozo was forced to enter the game as the backstop. Pages will likely undergo further testing to determine the severity of the hamstring issue.
  • NYY Designated Hitter #27
Giancarlo Stanton (calf) is not in the starting lineup against the Astros on Saturday.
Stanton left Friday’s win with tightness in his right calf, and the Yankees will not take any risks with the slugger. Amed Rosario is the designated hitter with Stanton day-to-day and hit sixth.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #56
Spencer Schwellenbach is hoping to be cleared to throw after meeting with his doctor in early May.
Schwellenbach had surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow about 10 weeks ago now. If he’s able to resume throwing in early May, a return just before or after the All-Star break would probably be the plan. He’s far from a sure thing, but there’s a chance he’ll be a big factor in fantasy leagues in the second half.
  • PIT Designated Hitter #24
Marcell Ozuna is not in the starting lineup for Saturday against the Brewers.
Ozuna, 35, will get a breather with Ryan O’Hearn operating as the designated hitter and Jake Mangum in left. Ozuna has struggled considerably in his first season with the Pirates with an OPS of just .487. We’ve seen him get off to slow starts only to finish with strong campaigns in the past, however.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #57
Yankees placed RHP Angel Chivili on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder discomfort.
Chivili will be out at least two weeks, and shoulder issues are often longer stints; particularly for pitchers. The right-hander’s spot on the roster is taken by David Weathers, who was activated off the injured list in a corresponding move. There should be more on Chivili’s status in the coming days.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #40
Yankees activated LHP Ryan Weathers off the paternity list.
Weathers is back with the club and will make the start Saturday against the Astros on Saturday.
  • LAD Catcher #16
Will Smith is not in the lineup Saturday against the Cubs due to tightness in his back.
Smith will get a breather while dealing with manager Dave Roberts saying that the backstop is “feeling a little tight.” The good news is that it appears this is just precautionary, and Roberts expects Smith to catch tomorrow. Dalton Rushing will try and keep hitting nothing but homers and hit sixth in Smith’s absence.
