It wouldn’t be the trade deadline if a player worse than most high-level D-Leaguers didn’t get moved for a second-round pick. According to the Sacramento Bee’s Sam Amick, the Kings have traded a second-round pick and cash for Dominic McGuire. Apparently the Kings enjoy trading things.
McGuire is only 24 years old, but doesn’t seem to have much future left. Statistically speaking, he is one of the worst players in the NBA. He is currently averaging 0.7 points and 1.5 rebounds in 6 minutes a game for the Wizards. McGuire is shooting 37.5% from the field. He has yet to attempt a three, and has missed all five of his free throw attempts. According to 82games.com, McGuire has made 26% of his jump shots and 33% of his shots at the rim that aren’t dunks.
This was likely a deal done to fill out the Kings’ roster, and may have had some minor financial benefits. I’m just still having trouble believing a GM picked up the phone and said “I’d like to trade for Dominic McGuire.”
