According to our own Ira Winderman, the Miami Heat have signed second-round pick Da’Sean Butler to a contract.
Butler is a 6-7 combo forward who played four years at West Virginia before tearing his ACL with seven minutes left to play in his final college game, a Final Four matchup against the eventual champion Duke Blue Devils.
Butler averaged 17.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over the course of his senior year while shooting 41.4%/35.4%/79%. He still has plenty of rehab left to do on his injured knee, but the Heat are apparently okay with that; Butler’s college experience, versatility, and high character make him a good fit for the 11th/12th man role he’ll likely play if he does end up making the Heat’s roster.
Butler’s signing means that the Heat now have several players competing for their 15th and final roster spot, including Kenny Hasbrouck, Shavlik Randolph, and Patrick Beverly.
