Longtime assistant coach Dick Harter was honored with a framed jersey before tonight’s Magic-Pacers game. The 80-year old Harter has long been considered a great defensive coach. After a college coaching career that included stops at Oregon, the University of Pennsylvania, and Penn State, the Pennsylvania native began a long career in the NBA.
After serving as an assistant for the Pistons and the Pacers, Harter was hired as the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets. After he was let go from that position, Harter served as an assistant several NBA teams before his current gig under longtime supervisor Jim O’Brien. Amidst all the other storylines that accompany the end of another regular season, it’s nice to take a moment to recognize the contributions of a man who gave so much of his time to basketball over the past few decades.
