Spears: Teams interested in Jared Jeffries

According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Houston Rockets have gotten “several inquires” about forward Jared Jeffries, who will make $6.8 million in the final year of his contract.

The Knicks gave Jeffries a $30 million contract in 2006, and traded him for Tracy McGrady at last year’s trade deadline. Now they apparently want him back, and have reportedly been dangling Eddy Curry’s $11 million expiring contract as incentive for the Rockets to make the deal.

Jeffries is a versatile forward who doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective, and his expiring contract would make him a pretty low-risk acquisition. The Rockets have several solid small and power forwards under contract, so they may well give Jeffries up without needing much in return. We’ll see what happens with this.
