ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Suns signed Duop Reath to a one-year deal.

With Mark Williams set to miss months after shoulder surgery, the Suns reportedly add another frontcourt option. Reath appeared in 32 games for the Trail Blazers last season before the Hawks acquired him ahead of the February trade deadline, and Atlanta waived him shortly after. Reath played just 8.1 minutes per game in Portland before undergoing foot surgery in January. While healthy, his prospects for achieving fantasy relevance in Phoenix aren’t much better. Khaman Maluach and Oso Ighodaro will be Williams’ primary replacements, with Ighodaro starting 24 games last season.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Mark Williams underwent shoulder surgery on Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Charania notes that Williams will miss “an extended period of time” after suffering the injury during an offseason workout. Williams’ injury history is extensive and well-documented, so this latest injury puts him in “do not draft” territory. Suddenly, Oso Ighodaro and Khaman Maluach are late-round fliers in standard leagues, with Maluach the early favorite to take over starting duties due to his strong Summer League play.

Dillon Brooks agreed to a three-year, $73 million contract extension, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Brooks only played 56 games last year, breaking a streak of three consecutive seasons with at least 72 games played. Still, Brooks averaged a career-high 20.2 points per game in his first year in Phoenix. That seems to have made an impression as the Suns decided to lock up the 30-year-old guard for the foreseeable future. With the team bringing in Miles Bridges and Luke Kennard this offseason, it could be tough to repeat the usage that led to his career-high scoring.

Koby Brea recorded 19 points (6-of-12 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), one rebound, two assists, one steal and six three-pointers in Monday’s win over the Bucks.

Re-signed to a two-way contract earlier in July, Brea showed off the perimeter shooting ability that made him a second-round pick in the 2025 draft. He shot 6-of-11 from beyond the arc on Monday, rebounding from a poor showing on Sunday, when Brea was 1-of-11 from the field overall and 0-of-7 from three. Brea appeared in just 12 NBA games as a rookie, with most of his reps coming in the G League. He’ll look to earn a longer NBA look when the Suns open training camp in the fall.

Koa Peat tallied 19 points (8-of-15 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), six rebounds, one assist and two steals in Monday’s win over the Bucks.

Peat has played well in all three of Phoenix’s games in Las Vegas, with Monday’s game being the most productive in points. The rookie forward recorded just one assist, but the Suns seemed to have no problem with him bringing the ball up the floor and facilitating. With Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and Miles Bridges on the roster, Peat is unlikely to have the ball in his hands much as a rookie. However, he’s shown the ability to influence play despite offering little as a perimeter shooter.
Khaman Maluach

Khaman Maluach finished Monday’s win over the Bucks with 21 points (5-of-10 FGs, 6-of-6 FTs), 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal, four blocks and one three-pointer.

Maluach has recorded a double-double in each of Phoenix’s first three games in Las Vegas, with Monday’s being the best of the bunch. Not only did he shoot 50 percent from the field and grab 10 rebounds, but the second-year center also blocked four shots. With the Suns re-signing Mark Williams, one would assume that he’ll be the starter. However, Maluach may be given every opportunity to compete with Oso Ighodaro for the backup role, especially when considering how well he’s played this week. A must-roster player in dynasty leagues, Maluach would have increased value as a backup in redraft leagues given Williams’ injury history.

NBA Insider Marc Stein reports former Suns head coach Frank Vogel is “poised” to join the Warriors coaching staff.

Vogel was last an NBA head coach in 2023 with the Suns, who fired him after just one season. His previous stop is perhaps more relevant here as he coached the Lakers and won a championship with LeBron James in 2020. With James reportedly considering joining the Warriors in free agency this offseason, Vogel joining Golden State’s coaching staff is notable, though nothing is guaranteed. Vogel has also coached the Magic and the Pacers.
Khaman Maluach

Khaman Maluach had 15 points (5-of-9 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), 15 rebounds, one assist, one steal, two blocks and two three-pointers in the Suns’ 81-75 loss to the Pelicans on Sunday.

Maluach followed up his double-double against the Trail Blazers on Friday with another double-double against the Pelicans on Sunday. The 19-year-old center was +10 in 28 minutes in a six-point loss for the Suns. Maluach continues to look improved in Summer League play.
Rasheer Fleming

Rasheer Fleming accounted for six points (3-of-9 FGs), 10 rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks in Friday’s win over the Trail Blazers.

Fleming didn’t have a great night shooting the basketball, missing all four of his three-point attempts. However, he’ll be most valuable to the Suns as a defender, and the second-year forward had a highly productive game. In addition to 10 rebounds, Fleming recorded two steals and two blocks in 25 minutes. With the Suns adding Miles Bridges via trade, there are likely to be fewer shots to go around next season. However, the exits of Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale mean that there’s still a need for help on the wings, even with Luke Kennard coming over. Fleming’s defensive ability should allow him to earn consistent minutes after playing sparingly as a rookie.

Koa Peat tallied 17 points (6-of-11 FGs, 3-of-5 FTs), six rebounds, four assists and one blocked shot in Friday’s win over the Trail Blazers.

Peat’s physicality was one of his strengths at the college level, and it was on display in his summer league debut on Friday. The rookie forward shot over 50 percent from the field and was active on the glass, but he also committed eight personal fouls. Players are allowed 10 fouls in summer league, so that isn’t a huge issue. However, getting better at playing with physicality without fouling will be an area in which Peat needs to improve. Against the Trail Blazers, he did his offensive work around the basket and in the mid-range, not attempting a three-pointer. Perimeter shooting is where Peat has the most work to do, so the lack of attempts isn’t a surprise.
