Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quad) is listed as a non-participant for Friday’s practice.
The team did not practice, so the report is an estimation.
Despite Dan Quinn’s optimism about McLaurin’s status for Monday Night Football, it seems likely that McLaurin will miss a third consecutive game.
McLaurin has 10 catches for 149 yards this season.
Running back Chris Rodriguez (calf) also remained out of practice, but wide receiver Deebo Samuel (heel) was listed as a limited participant after missing Thursday’s on-field work for a load management day.
Tight end John Bates (shoulder) was estimated as a full participant after being limited on Thursday, but wide receiver Noah Brown (groin/knee) was limited for a second consecutive day.
Offensive guard Sam Cosmi (knee) and quarterback Jayden Daniels (knee) remained full participants.
Cosmi is in his 21-day return-to-practice window and could return this week.
Defensive lineman Grady Jarrett (knee) remained out of the Bears’ practice on Friday ahead of a Monday Night Football game against the Commanders.
Jarrett missed the team’s Week 4 game against the Raiders.
He has four tackles in three games.
Offensive lineman Darnell Wright (elbow) returned to limited work after missing Thursday’s session, and defensive back Jaquan Brisker (quad) and running back Kyle Monangai (thigh) were back to full participation after sitting out a day earlier.
Brisker and Monangai’s injuries are new this week.
Offensive lineman Jonah Jackson (rib) was a full participant after being limited on Thursday.
Defensive back Kyler Gordon (hamstring) and tight end Colston Loveland (hip) remained limited.
Kicker Cairo Santos (right thigh) had another full practice on Friday.
Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has missed the past two games with a quad injury.
Coach Dan Quinn expressed optimism earlier this week that McLaurin will return for the Monday night game against the Bears.
McLaurin, though, did not return to practice on Thursday. He has not practiced since Week 3.
McLaurin has 10 catches for 149 yards this season.
The Commanders also practiced without wide receiver Deebo Samuel (heel/rest) and running back Chris Rodriguez (calf).
Tight end John Bates (shoulder) and wide receiver Noah Brown (groin/knee) were limited.
Offensive guard Sam Cosmi (knee) and quarterback Jayden Daniels (knee) were full participants.
Cosmi is in his 21-day return to practice window and could return this week.
The Bears will be in Washington for Monday Night Football in Week 6 and that’s meant this week has featured a lot of mentions of their last trip to face the Commanders.
In Week 8 of the 2024 season, the Bears held a three-point lead on the final snap of the game. Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was interacting with fans when that snap occurred, which meant he was late reacting to Washington’s Hail Mary try and wound up tipping the ball to Commanders wide receiver Noah Brown for a memorable game-winning catch.
Stevenson was supposed to be covering Brown, which made him a focal point of criticism coming out of the game and the Bears going on to lose their next nine games as well meant that it was all but impossible to escape reminders of the play. On Wednesday, Stevenson said “the only thing I can do from then on is show my actions have changed so I can become a better man and a better football player on the field.”
“It was harsh, it hurt my feelings,” Stevenson said, via Gene Chamberlain of the Associated Press. “That’s the best way I can explain it — it just hurt my feelings being a football player and having one of those mistakes that’s going to linger around. Even when my son grows up, I’ve got to explain that to him. It definitely hurt. But just use it as fuel.”
While Stevenson was wrong on that play, he has been doing something right in the last couple of games. He forced and recovered a fumble early in Chicago’s Week 3 win over the Cowboys and then had an interception and another fumble recovery in a win over the Raiders the next week. More of the same on Monday would be a good way to continue pushing memories of 2024 deeper into the recesses of minds around the league.
Last year’s game between the Bears and Commanders featured one of the most memorable moments of the 2024 season.
The Commanders were down 15-12 on the final play of the game, but wound up winning when quarterback Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary bounced off of Bears defenders into the hands of wide receiver Noah Brown in the end zone. The win helped jumpstart the Commanders’ run to the NFC title game and it kicked off a 10-game losing streak for the Bears that included the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus.
Ben Johnson is now the head coach of the Bears and he wasn’t interested in revisiting what happened last year on Tuesday when he was asked about any revenge game aspect to the Week 6 meeting between the teams.
“You’d have to talk to those guys about it,” Johnson said. “We’re a new team and we’re just focused on winning this game this week.”
One of the players who was there last year was cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. Stevenson gained notice for jawing with Commanders fans as the play got underway and then failing to be in the proper position when Brown hauled in the ball. He passed on the chance to talk about returning to the stadium on Tuesday, per the Chicago Sun-Times, but one imagines he’ll be looking to right his past wrongs on Monday night.
