La’el Collins’ latest stint with the Cowboys didn’t last long.

The Cowboys are cutting Collins today, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.

Collins signed in Dallas at the start of this month and played in all three preseason games, but he didn’t do enough to earn a spot on the offensive line.

A first-round draft prospect coming out of LSU, Collins signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2015 after false rumors of his involvement in a homicide tanked his draft stock. He played with the Cowboys through 2021, signed with the Bengals in 2022, then had another brief stint with the Cowboys in 2023 and a brief stint with the Bills in 2024. At age 32, he may now have reached the end of the line.

Cornerback Trevon Diggs said “maybe, maybe not” when asked this week about the chances that he’ll play against the Eagles in Week 1 and the team cleared a path toward having him in the lineup on Sunday.

The Cowboys announced that Diggs passed his physical and that he has been activated from the physically unable to perform list as well. If Diggs was not activated ahead of Tuesday’s cut to 53 players, he would have been out for at least the first four games of the season.

Diggs tore the ACL in his left knee in 2023 and missed the end of last season after needing further surgery on the same knee.

It’s not a sure thing that Diggs will face the Eagles a week from Thursday, but the move clears him to begin practicing and Diggs said this week that his practice work would be a significant factor in telling him when he’s ready for game action.

Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue had to exit Friday’s preseason matchup with the Falcons early with an ankle injury, but he may not miss time.

Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Blue suffered a low ankle sprain on Friday. He’s hopeful to be ready for Dallas’ Week 1 matchup with Philadelphia.

Blue, a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft, suffered the injury in the fourth quarter on Friday on a 6-yard reception that was negated by an offensive pass interference penalty.

Blue had injured that same right ankle/heel earlier in August during a training camp practice. He had just returned to practice on Tuesday.

He finished the preseason with nine carries for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Micah Parsons occasionally has cited a back tightness for not practicing with the Cowboys. He and Trevon Diggs even made a joke about it in Parsons’ initial media session at the start of camp.

It’s certainly something he could use to continue his hold in during the regular season as he seeks a contract extension.

The Cowboys, though, recently had Parsons undergo an MRI, and Brian Schottenheimer said Saturday the results were “pretty clean.”

Parsons had been engaged with his team and his teammates, even as he watched practice and preseason games from the sideline, until Friday night. Parsons spent time during the game against the Falcons lying on a training table with his eyes closed.

Parsons defended his actions on social media, saying he would “never disrespect the guys out there fighting for their lives.”

Schottenheimer said Saturday that the team would handle Parsons’ conduct at the game internally after he talks to Parsons on Sunday when the team returns to The Star.

“I am aware of it. . . . I need to figure out what he was doing, why he was doing it,” Schottenheimer said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “Until I talk to him, I’m not going to talk about it.”

The Eagles played sixth-round pick Kyle McCord for all of Friday night’s game against the Jets and they may need him to back up Jalen Hurts in the season opener as well.

Tanner McKee is set for the No. 2 job, but he suffered a finger injury in practice this week. After Friday night’s game, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said that the team doesn’t know if he’ll be available against the Cowboys on September 4.

“We’ll see,” Sirianni said, via Jeff Neiburg of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He’s working to get back, and we’ll see where he is.”

McCord was 15-of-35 for 136 yards and an interception, but Sirianni said that the team feels comfortable with the quarterback situation heading into Week 1. That doesn’t mean the team will ignore any options that become available as they wait for further word on McKee’s availability.
