The Broncos are trying to make it a game against the Eagles.
J.K. Dobbins put in a 2-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make the score 17-10, Philadelphia.
Dobbins’ touchdown capped a 10-play, 64-yard drive. The Broncos faced just one third down on the possession, converting it with Bo Nix’s 6-yard pass to Courtland Sutton on third-and-2.
Denver has converted just 3-of-12 third downs on the day.
Nix is 16-of-30 for 125 yards. Dobbis has picked up 72 yards on 15 carries.
Denver will have an opportunity to tie the game after sacking Jalen Hurts on third-and-long on the ensuing possession.
Jalen Hurts has hit a long touchdown pass — but not to an Eagles wide receiver.
Instead, Saquon Barkley got loose down the field and Hurts hit him with a deep ball for a 47-yard touchdown to give Philadelphia a 17-3 lead early in the third quarter.
The play concluded a short four-play drive to open the third quarter.
Hurts is now 16-of-23 for 212 yards with two touchdowns. His season high in yards for the first four weeks of the year was 226, and it sure looks like Hurts should eclipse that today.
On the injury front, Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson is out with an ankle injury. Tight end Grant Calcaterra has also been ruled out with an oblique injury.
The Eagles have gotten their passing game going a bit in the first half of their Week 5 matchup against the Broncos. They hold a 10-3 lead at halftime.
DeVonta Smith leads with 75 yards on four catches — including a 52-yard reception on third-and-17 midway through the second quarter to set up a 2-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to Dallas Goedert.
A.J. Brown also has four catches for 35 yards, as Hurts ended the first two quarters 13-of-19 for 138 yards with a TD.
Philadelphia’s defense has also held Denver’s offense at bay, with the Broncos gaining just 102 yards and seven first downs. Denver is just 1-of-8 on third down.
The Broncos’ only points came from Wil Lutz’s 55-yard field goal in midway through the first quarter.
Bo Nix is 10-of-21 for 79 yards. J.K. Dobbins has 28 yards on seven carries.
The Eagles will receive the second-half kickoff.
The Eagles had an eventful week, despite being 4-0. And they’re hoping that the most interesting storyline surrounding the team stops being one.
Toward that end, they’ve gotten the word out: They have no plans to trade Brown.
And even though the utterance of “no plans” often becomes a precursor to a deal, the Eagles seem to mean it.
The story from NFL Media has an interesting nugget embedded within it. The Eagles reportedly got calls from “teams” in the offseason regarding a potential trade. They replied, per the report, “No chance.”
Still, it’s obvious there’s an issue. Brown admitted this week to being frustrated about a lack of touches. And the effort by Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts to create the impression that everything is fine and dandy between them was not persuasive.
So it makes sense to watch the Philly offense carefully today against the Broncos. Will it include plays that gets the ball into Brown’s hands, either by a screen pass or a jet sweep? Will he be the first read on passes down the field? Will Hurts throw the ball his way if he’s open, or close to it?
The Ravens ruled six players out on Friday, so they knew they’d be shorthanded for Sunday’s game against the Texans but there was a question about how many other players would be unavailable due to injuries.
Four players were listed as questionable, including safety Kyle Hamilton and left tackle Ronnie Stanley. Both of them are on the inactive list, so the Ravens are very thin on stars as they join quarterback Lamar Jackson, linebacker Roquan Smith, and cornerback Marlon Humphrey on the sideline.
Cooper Rush will get the start at quarterback and several other backups will have to shine if the Ravens are going to avoid a 1-4 start.
