Someone at the league office forgot to check their work before announcing the compensatory picks for the 2025 NFL draft.

This year’s compensatory picks were announced on Tuesday, but today the NFL admitted that there was a mistake in that announcement: The Dolphins were wrongly awarded a seventh-round compensatory pick that should have gone to the Saints. Under the corrected order, the Browns and Chargers will also see their seventh-round compensatory picks moved down by one selection.

The NFL awards compensatory picks based on a complex formula based on the quality of free agents who are signed and lost by each team. This year the league made a mistake in awarding the Dolphins a seventh-round compensatory pick for losing Cedrick Wilson to the Saints in free agency. Via Nick Korte, the Dolphins had shortened Wilson’s contract, which made them ineligible to receive a compensatory pick for losing him, and means he doesn’t cancel out a compensatory pick for the Saints.

The compensatory pick formula is complex enough that the league often makes mistakes that need to be corrected. The league doesn’t publish everything that goes into the formula, so it’s hard for anyone else to check the league’s work.

Here’s the corrected compensatory pick order:

*Special Compensatory Selection

The Dolphins are adding a tight end.

Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Pharaoh Brown has agreed to a one-year deal with Miami.

Brown, 30, spent last season with the Seahawks. He appeared in 15 games with seven starts and recorded eight catches for 65 yards. He was on the field for 27 percent of offensive snaps and 47 percent of special teams snaps in games played.

Having entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017, Brown has played 87 games for the Raiders, Browns, Texans, Patriots, and Seahawks. He’s caught 72 career passes for 751 yards with three TDs.

The Dolphins are re-signing offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg to a one-year deal, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Eichenberg, 27, entered the NFL as a second-round pick of the Dolphins in 2021. He has played all five positions on the offensive line, making him a valuable reserve.

Eichenberg started the first 14 games of the season at right guard and played 1,035 snaps.

In his career, he has played 702 snaps at left guard, 1,182 at right guard, 964 at left tackle, 164 at right tackle and 653 at center.

The Dolphins also signed veteran right guard James Daniels and offensive lineman Larry Borom.

The Dolphins are signing free agent running back Alexander Mattison, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.

Miami lost Raheem Mostert to the Raiders and replaced him with a former Raiders running back. De’Von Achane is the starter with Mattison and Jaylen Wright as backups.

Mattison, 26, played 14 games with seven starts for the Raiders and had 168 touches for 714 yards and five touchdowns.

The Vikings made Mattison a third-round pick in 2019, and he spent his first five seasons in Minnesota before leaving for a one-year, $2 million deal with the Raiders a year ago.

In his career, Mattison has 852 touches for 3,802 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Da’Shawn Hand is headed West.

Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, Hand has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chargers.

Garafolo notes the contract is worth up to $3.35 million.

Hand, 29, spent the last two seasons with the Dolphins. He appeared in all 17 games for Miami with two starts in 2024, recording 31 total tackles with five for loss, four QB hits, and a sack.

He was on the field for 53 percent of Miami’s defensive snaps and 24 percent of special teams snaps.

A Lions fourth-round pick in 2018, Hand has appeared in 64 games with 13 starts for Detroit, Tennessee, and Miami. He has 5.0 career sacks with 12 tackles for loss and nine QB hits.
